Job Title: Operations Technician, I & II
Department: Operations
Reports to: Office Manager
Classification: Part-Time, Non-Exempt Status
I. Job Summary
Joining the Wonder Gardens (TWG) team provides the opportunity to work with one of Southwest Florida’s favorite attractions. Ensure the gardens and its facilities are always well cared for to ensure maximum guest experience. Ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness and maintenance of the facilities and demonstrate integrity, self-accountability, and self-development.
II. Key Responsibilities
Contribute to a positive work environment and team dynamic.
Perform minor building, plumbing, electrical and painting repairs, as necessary.
Maintain inventory of repair equipment and supplies.
Maintain and troubleshoot aquatic life-support systems.
Implements any needed repairs of all exhibits, which can include construction work, enclosure repair, cleaning pools and water changes as needed.
Helps develop and implement any large projects on property, such as building new enclosures or improving current exhibits, fences, and other features.
Maintains cleanliness of working areas, including trash and recycling duties.
Maintains cleanliness of the property including bathroom facilities, public walkways, and parking area.
Provides wildlife information and conservation messages daily through one-on-one guest interactions.
Interacts with, maintains positive relationships with other maintenance personnel, contractors, and volunteers.
In case of impending inclement weather will work to prepare the gardens and wildlife. Will also provide post event clean up and related needed repairs.
Attendance at on property special events, some after regular hours.
Provide information in a timely and accurate manner, including prompt follow-up communications.
Guest Experience and Programming
Must be able to work flexible hours/days/ evenings as needed.
Ensure a safe environment for guests, employees, and animals.
Work as a team member in the production of programs special events on occasion, as requested.
Oversee periodic review of signage including wayfinding and regulatory signage, making needed repairs or replacements.
Regulatory Compliance
Direct local and federal inspection agencies to the correct area operation upon arrival to the Wonder Gardens.
Ensure compliance with regulations for permitting and accreditation.
Safety
Understand safety and emergency procedures and policies.
Proper use of personal protective and emergency equipment as needed.
Follow safety guidelines for tool use and a safe workspace.
Volunteers and Student Interns
Recognize and treat volunteers and interns with respect.
Commit to providing them with a beneficial and positive learning experiences.
The Public/Customer Service
Always remain acutely aware of the presence of needs of guests of the Wonder Gardens.
Maintain a friendly, courteous, and helpful attitude towards visitors.
III. Qualifications, Operations Technician I & II
Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED; Related degree from a technical college preferred.
One-year experience working in maintenance field.
Knowledge and ability to perform basic handywork.
Knowledge and ability to safely use hand tools and power tools.
Knowledgeable of maintenance and repair, including that of plumbing, irrigation, and water pumps.
Horticultural, wildlife, or exhibits knowledge a plus.
Able to manage multiple projects, handle interruptions and shifting priorities, maintain focus on tasks, and pay meticulous attention to detail.
Must have exceptional customer service and verbal communication skills and be capable of interacting with guests in a professional manner.
Self-motivated with excellent time management skills and accuracy
Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the Wonder Gardens.
Ability to handle confidential information in a professional and discrete manner.
Have consistent and reliable transportation to and from work.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. for any company.
Must be available days, evenings, and weekends.
Must be able to think creatively.
Ability to work independently, at times with minimal supervision, as well as on a team, as necessary.
Qualifications, Operation Technician II
Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a maintenance field.
Ability to track spending according to budgetary needs. Keep track of all receipts and turn in, in a timely manner.
Supervise all volunteers for projects and be able to give them direction.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to easily navigate the grounds of the Gardens.
Requires lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
