Job AdGainesville Regional Utilities' Energy Supply Department is seeking a Power Plant Materials Handling Supervisor to provide hands-on leadership in the operation and maintenance of power plant fuel inventories, coal/wood train unloading, on-site landfills, buildings and grounds and large equipment for bulk materials storage, handling and disposal.Work in this position will include but not be limited to: supervising, planning and coordinating work of subordinates; coal/wood handling systems; pneumatic and mechanical conveying systems for bulk materials and combustion by-products; on-site landfills for combustion by-product storage; fleet liaison for the preventive maintenance and repairs of light duty and large, off road heavy duty bulk materials moving equipment including a vacuum truck. Facility cleanup and conducting work planning. Expectations are for developing and implementing work processes for daily, weekly, monthly planned outages and forced outages.To be considered for this position you must have: graduated from high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma and have six (6) years of experience in operation and maintenance of heavy equipment, maintenance of power plant coal/wood inventory and ash management; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Job DescriptionSUMMARYThis is skilled supervisory work overseeing the daily operation and maintenance of power plant coal inventories, wood inventories, pebble lime inventories, coal train unloading facilities, wood unloading facilities, pebble lime unloading facilities, secure landfill complexes, and large coal / wood ash operations and maintenance equipment.Positions allocated to this classification report to a designated supervisor and work under general supervision. Work in this class is distinguished from other classes by its supervisory responsibility.EXAMPLES OF WORKThis section of the job description is not intended to be a comprehensive list of duties and responsibilities of the position. Performance of lower level duties may be required.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSSupervises, plans and coordinates work of subordinates.Trains and provides training plans for subordinates. Ensures competency of staff. Addresses any knowledge gaps with remedial training plansMotivates staff for safe and efficient productivity and addresses noncompliance to procedures through proper coaching, counseling or disciplinary techniquesMaintains ash removal equipment and boiler economizers, slag removal equipment, fly ash removal systems and coal / wood handling equipment.Maintains and operates the coal / wood reclaim system including coal / wood pile discharges, pebble lime system, vibrating feeders, conveyors and drives, crushers and associated dust collectors, sample equipment, and conveyor system to the bunkers including scales, dust collectors, conveyor trippers, and gates.Maintains coal / wood ready pile, episode pile, and dead storage piles using bulldozers, front-end loaders, and other equipment.Oversees maintenance of ash ponds, pumps, and piping used in collecting ash and for on-site waste disposal of sludge, deposits from the brine concentrator, and fly ash.Coordinates work and projects assigned to private contractors.Complies with information provided on Material Safety Data Sheets for all products.Observes and adheres to proper tag out and lockout of plant equipment and systems in accordance with clearance procedures, policies, and practices.Assists in development of plant safety programs related to operational and mechanical coal ash systems.Ensures heavy equipment and vehicle preventive and corrective maintenance occurs to ensure equipment safety and reliabilityAssists with oversight of Facility maintenance tasks at any of the generating sitesPrepares detailed records and reports in a timely manner.Keeps records of labor and materials.Provides training and instruction to subordinates.Responds in and to emergency situations.Attends work on a continuous and regular basis.NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSAssists in developing of coal / wood ash equipment operator PTTP curriculum.Oversees general housekeeping in work area.May be responsible for enforcing the drug policy, based on physical location and organizational structure.May be required to transport, mix, handle or use hazardous materials (other than cans of gasoline, batteries, pumping fuel or normal janitorial cleaning materials) or may be responsible for facilities or equipment carrying current, fluids or gas that could endanger the public or other employees.Assists with training of Power Plant Trainees, Apprentice, and Journey level Material Handling Equipment Operators, and other personnel as directed by the Plant Manager.Performs other related duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job function satisfactorily. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Work requires normal color vision to distinguish the color and severity of many control and safety devices.Work requires the use of personal protection equipment including hearing protection, eye protection, foot protection, hand protection, head protection and use of respiratory protection including self-contained breathing units. This position requires the ability to use respiratory protection equipment in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) regulations.Work requires performance of tasks at heights of over 100 feet on open grating or from aerial devices, including the ability to climb and descend stairs and ladders.Work requires physical strength and agility sufficient to safely perform all essential job functions including the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull 50 pounds without assistance and to stand, kneel and stoop.WORK ENVIRONMENT Work may require performance of tasks outdoors under varying climatic conditions.Work may require performance of tasks in extreme heat; and by entering and maneuvering within confined spaces.
