POSITION: AIRPORT MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN I
DEPARTMENT: FACILITIES AND MAINTENANCE (400)
OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF JOB
Provide general maintenance and repair of airport buildings, grounds and equipment in order to preserve and improve functionality, security, safety and aesthetics.
CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS
Positions allocated to this classification report to a designated supervisor and work under close supervision. This is entry level work.

EXAMPLES OF WORK
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Performs general buildings and grounds maintenance as required.
2. Operates vehicles, tractors, loaders, dump truck, bucket truck and other equipment, for which trained.
3. Operates power tools and miscellaneous hand tools.
4. Cuts grass, trims weeds, removes brush and debris as needed.
5. Makes repairs to damaged or malfunctioning equipment.
6. Stocks supplies; loads and unloads items as needed.
7. Transports materials to/from proper locations within the airport grounds or offsite as necessary.
8. Installs equipment as needed.
9. Changes light bulbs as needed.
10. Paints required fixtures, buildings and other objects as directed.
11. Performs other related duties as assigned.
AIRPORT MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN I
JOB DESCRIPTION
12. Attends work on continuous and regular basis.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Completion of high school degree or GED equivalent plus six months experience in either the building trades or building and grounds maintenance, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to acquire the skills necessary to operate a full complement of maintenance vehicles and equipment on airport and surrounding property, to include an active airfield, safely and without threat to aircraft, people and self.
Physical strength and agility sufficient to permit working overhead, and with equipment or objects weighing over 30 pounds. Must have ability to lift up to 100 pounds as necessary.
Must be able to understand the English language and speak in an understandable manner in order to carry out essential job duties.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
Ability to maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
Must be able to successfully pass a fingerprint-based criminal history records check, TSA Security Threat Assessment and personal background check prior to employment.
Compliance with all personnel policies.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES
Valid Florida Driver’s license required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Knowledge of the methods, tools and practices used in general maintenance and construction.
AIRPORT MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN I
JOB DESCRIPTION
Knowledge of general practices applied in care and safe operation of a wide variety of maintenance equipment.
Knowledge and ability to detect defects in equipment and make proper adjustments and emergency repairs.
Ability to perform manual labor related to operation of motorized equipment.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and required safety precautions, and the ability to exercise care and use of various tools and equipment.
Possession of a Commercial Drivers License or the ability to obtain a CDL within one year, if requested.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to function independently, have flexibility, and work effectively with clients, co-workers and others.
