All newly licensed CNA applicants will be required
to attend a4-weekStar Tech Program. The next Star Tech Program will begin Monday: XXXX XX, 20XX.
TheStar Tech Programis designed for inexperienced
Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) who strive to work on Medical/Surgical
Nursing Units in the hospital setting. The program is comprised of didactic
training, skills training and clinical preceptorship at the sponsoring facility.
Star Tech Program is concentrated training prior to hospital employment. The
licensed certified nursing assistant is not only oriented to the facility in
which they will be working, but is better prepared for standard patient care
assignments in an acute care setting upon successful completion of the 4-week
program.
Thefirst two (2)
weeksinclude a combination of didactic education and skills training.
Learners will get Basic Life Support (BLS) and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)
certified during this time.
Theremaining two (2) weeksare spent at the sponsoring
facility working with aCertified Nurse Assistant and supervised by a Registered
Nurse.
The Star Tech learner
will work 3 - twelve hour (12hr) shiftsduring each week of the Clinical
Preceptorship, which may include weekend shifts or night shifts, based on the
preceptorship schedule and needs of the nursing unit.
TheStar Tech Programis based upon the standards
established by the State Boards of Nursing for CNAs. Many of the division
and/or facility specific training initiatives will be incorporated into the
curriculum as well. Learners will be BLS and CPI certified. Nursing assistants
will be introduced and trained on the facility Electronic Health Record.
SUMMARY OF THE
POSITION:
Graduates of the Star Tech fulfill the role of Patient Care Technician
in our hospital. As a Patient Care Technician (CNA) at the hospital, you
will deliver high quality, patient-centered care by performing a variety of
important patient care services related to common nursing functions and
activities of daily listing. Under supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN),
you will assist the nursing staff in providing patient care with your skills
and training and in accordance with the needs of our department. The Patient
Care Technician will consistently assist the patient care team by maintaining a
clean, well-organized and safe patient care environment.
What you will do in this role:
signs, height and weight, intake and output, calorie counts, application of
ice/heat, and/or simple non-sterile dressing changes.
patient call lights in a timely manner and respond to patient needs/requests.
patients with performing activities of daily living to include bathing,
shaving, oral care, toileting, grooming, changing linens, providing water,
ambulation, assisting with meal delivery and feeding as directed.
responsible for safe patient handling: Turning and positioning, use of
specialty beds, patient transfer and use of transfer devices, ambulation
assistance and use of assistive devices, restraint alternatives, oxygen use and
transport, suction use, pre-operative skin preparation and/or use of sequential
compression devices (SCD).
responsible for recording information in the patient’s medical records.
close communication with physicians, nurses and other healthcare team members
regarding changes in a patient’s care and condition.
physicians and nurses, you will be responsible for educating patients and
families on the care and therapies being provided
supplies levels in your unit and patient rooms and restock as needed.
Qualifications
commitment to the sponsoring facility. If a PCT chooses to leave the
facility before the 1-year commitment is fulfilled, they will be required
to meet a pro-rated monetary responsibility.

as a Certified Nurse Assistant in the state prior to the start of the program
current or prior experience working as an acute care hospital CNA
