Is supervised by registered nurses and physicians. Works cooperatively with members of the nursing staff, physicians, managers and support staff. Interacts professionally with patients and treats them with dignity and respect.Position Overview:The procedural support assistant is an integral member of the procedural team and assists with delegated tasks of direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse and/or physician in the Department of Pain Medicine. The procedural assistant provides patient support and follows through with the designated plan of action as directed by the physician. The procedural assistant is responsible for the care, handling, and processing of pain medicine procedural equipment and turnover of the procedure room(s). The procedural assistant is responsible for assisting with diagnostic, interventional and therapeutic procedures such as Epidural Steroid Injections, Genicular blocks, Epidural blood patches, Spinal Cord Stimulator trials, Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMCA), Peripheral Nerve Stimulator placements and trials. The procedural assistant works in the procedural unit in the fluoroscopy suites, ultrasound suites and recovery room. The procedural assistant is responsible for operation of the radiofrequency ablation machine as well as the ultrasound machine. They are responsible for setting up the sterile field as well as prepping the patient prior to the procedure. The procedural assistant may be cross-trained to work in other areas based at employer’s discretion. This individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life-span, appropriately interpret information relative to the patient’s age-specific needs and be able to communicate data reflective of the patient’s status.QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED equivalent.
