Average tax prep fee: $600
At 40% commission, you earn $240 per return
Higher-tier returns: up to $1,500+
At 40% commission, you earn $600+ per return
Experienced preparers with recurring clients may qualify for up to 55% commission
Your income is directly tied to your effort — the more clients you bring in, the more you earn. Many preparers make $20,000–$100,000+ in just one tax season.
