Director of Safety - Transportation
We are a local transportation company looking to hire an experienced Safety Director. We are seeking an aggressive, forward thinking and highly motivated candidate to work in a fast paced environment. Must be a self-starter with the ability to communicate and interface effectively with all levels of the organization. This position partners with executive and operations management to identify, establish, and maintain an effective safety program which will minimize accidents, injuries, and other risks associated with a DOT classified workforce by providing direction, training, and recommendations, based on regulations and on analysis of corporate and industry trends.
Primary duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
⢠Responsible for all aspects of Safety within the organization
⢠CSA Compliance, responsible monitoring and managing CSA Compliance
⢠Responsible for maintaining acceptable levels in all CSA Basics
⢠Manages company's DOT random drug and alcohol program, works with appropriate personnel to ensure file accuracy and proper file maintenance
⢠Safety education, responsible for delivering a safety curriculum that enhances safety awareness through weekly safety meetings with operations, and periodic safety meetings with drivers
⢠Accident management with first call responsibility in cooperation with maintenance and operations
⢠IFTA/IRP reporting
⢠Responsible for tractor mileage, fuel, rentals, leases and record keeping.
⢠Develop, implement, execute and manage strategies to prevent workplace injuries, vehicle accidents, and property damage
⢠Instruct drivers regarding company and DOT regulations, penalties for infraction of rules, and safety policies and procedures, provide immediate coaching when required
⢠Take accident reports, conduct incident investigations, root-cause analysis, follow-up, and closure of each action item, and leverage learning across the organization for all transportation accidents involving Company personnel and/or equipment
⢠All aspects of Driver recruiting and Driver retention
⢠Responsible for Driver orientation, training and development programs
⢠Responsible for Driver incentive programs
The successful candidate will possess the following attributes and experience:
⢠3 to 5 years verifiable experience in a safety role within a transportation or logistics company
⢠Certification preferred
⢠Knowledge of all applicable safety rules and regulations: DOT, DMV, FMCSA, Hours of Service understanding.
⢠Ability to make and deliver training presentations, work collaboratively w/ colleagues to create a results driven, team oriented environment, maintain confidentially , make independent decisions, demonstrate excellent organizational skills, use PC and operational software , (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, safety software), handle multiple priorities and meet critical deadlines.
⢠Bachelor's degree
Required experience:
⢠Safety Director's experience: 3+ years
⢠Knowledge of FMCSA regulations
⢠Knowledge of D.O.T. hours of service rules
⢠Prior managerial and leadership experience strongly preferred
⢠Strong PC skills
Required license or certification:
⢠CDS, CSS or CDT Certification preferred
Required education:
⢠Bachelor's
