This position is pivotal in managing a diverse range of legal matters, including general liability, product, fleet, and pharmacy lawsuits, across the eight states where Publix operates. The General Liability Attorney is tasked with developing and enhancing processes and policies for litigated and attorney-represented claims. Additionally, this role involves managing legal costs, providing legal advice at various levels, and serving as a liaison to other business and support units within Publix. The responsibilities outlined are not exhaustive, and additional duties may be assigned as necessary.Hybrid work environment: many of Publix’s corporate offices offer work from home up to two days a week.Job Description:

Manage and oversee all legal functions within the organization to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Oversee the handling and resolution of claims to minimize legal risks and financial exposure.

Provide expert legal advice and guidance to senior management and other departments on various legal matters.

Develop and implement legal strategies to support the organization's business objectives.

Manage relationships with external law firms and legal service providers to ensure effective and efficient legal support.

Conduct legal research and analysis to support decision-making and policy development.

Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.

Ensure the organization's legal interests are protected in all transactions and interactions.

Monitor changes in legislation and regulations that may impact the organization and advise on necessary actions.

Lead and mentor a team of legal professionals to enhance their skills and performance.

Bachelor’s Degree and a Juris Doctor.

5 years of legal experience as an attorney in a litigation practice, handling tort and personal injury defense litigation focusing on premises liability, negligent security, automobile and fleet liability, pharmacy, or medical malpractice; and trial experience (as lead or second chair), or

3 years of legal experience as an attorney in a litigation-related field and 2 years of experience defending Publix (or managing litigation for an insurance carrier, third-party administrator, or a corporate liability claim function).

Active BAR admission to any state bar.

Have a valid, and active driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in risk management, Business, Finance, Accounting, Insurance, or related analytical discipline with a Juris Doctor, or

MBA with a concentration in Finance or related discipline with a Juris Doctor.

5-7 years of litigation management experience of tort claims working as an attorney in the legal department of a corporation or as an attorney in the claims department for an insurance company or third-party administrator, and

Experience in a Risk Management, claims, or insurance environment, including familiarity with Risk Management, claims adjusting, and insurance financial concepts.

Experience in legal fee cost control, outside legal counsel management, alternative fee arrangements.

Experience developing processes or reference and procedure for use by companies or law firms.

At least 5 years of legal experience in tort and personal injury litigation.

Experience serving as trial counsel (as lead or second chair) in multiple liability claims.

Experience with legal matters involving insurance coverage, indemnification, appellate advocacy, product liability, subrogation, interpretation of leases, pharmacy or medical, and legislation drafting.

Admitted to the Florida Bar and other states in which Publix operates, and

Associate of Risk Management designation or Certified Claims Representative Designation.
