Garcia Civil Contractors is hiring a Concrete Superintendent. This dynamic, high-responsibility role demands both technical depth (mastery of concrete construction and FDOT standards) and leadership finesse (team guidance, meticulous organization, and effective communication). Deep knowledge of concrete construction techniques, formwork, reinforcement, pouring, finishing, curing, and testing protocols.
Ability to perform and oversee field testing (e.g. slump, strength tests), manage soil/concrete testing, and report findings.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction plans, FDOT-specific specifications, and standards to ensure accurate execution
Skilled in developing schedules—especially lookahead plans—to manage critical paths, sequencing of work, and timely concrete pours
Enforce quality-control processes to meet FDOT standards and safety codes.
Enforce a robust safety culture, conduct safety meetings, monitor OSHA and FDOT safety requirements, and record incidents
Understand manpower productivity metrics, cost implications of labor, and manage field-level cost control.
Maintain daily logs, change orders, timecards, and project documentation necessary for FDOT compliance
Must be familiar with SWPPP (Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans), environmental compliance standards, and FDOT regulatory policies
Provide clear direction, train and mentor teams, foster morale, and coordinate between field crews, subcontractors, inspectors, and stakeholders
Leadership, Knowledge, and Organizational Skills with knowledge enabling better planning and problem-solving
Act as a liaison between project management, subcontractors, inspectors, clients, and FDOT representatives—clearly translating technical details and requirements
Industry feedback emphasizes treating team members with respect, owning up to mistakes, and cultivating trust
Adapt swiftly to site challenges—weather, delays, or technical issues—and make decisions to preserve schedule and quality
Plan ahead, manage overlapping scopes, prioritize tasks, and track daily site activities to stay on schedule and preempt bottlenecks
Rigorous in following specifications—for example, understanding mix designs, reading submittals, catching subtle differences in concrete applications
Maintain transparent and accurate records—daily logs, RFIs, cost records—for accountability and traceability
Adaptability & Resilience Under Pressure
Function effectively under tight deadlines, work long hours when needed, and remain calm under jobsite pressure
Uphold integrity in leading the team, adhere to safety protocols, and build client trust through consistent performance
Familiarity with FDOT’s construction manuals, specification codes, permitting processes, and inspection protocols is essential
Florida-specific requirements like SWPPP, water management practices, erosion control, and permitting compliance are critical
Local Coordination Knowledge
Interaction with Florida-based contractors, local inspectors, labor unions (if applicable), and authorities requires strong relationship-building skills.
