Mechanics are required to perform a range of duties and responsibilities that can differ from day to day depending on the jobs that they are assigned. This can include anything from routine maintenance work to specialized repairs. Other duties include:
Mechanic duties and responsibilities:
- Assess vehicles and/or machinery to accurately diagnose and repair issues
- Liaise with clients to determine their automotive requirements and communicate vehicular defects or problems
- Provide routine inspections of vehicles
- Maintain and clean garage equipment and tools to ensure they are kept in a safe and usable condition at all times
- Adhere to company work safety policies
Mechanic skills and qualifications:
- Advanced knowledge of a vehicle, its electrical system and the mechanisms of an engine and/or diesel engine
- In-depth knowledge of diesel engine components and operational mechanisms is preferred but not necessary
- Superior knowledge of maintenance tools and repair equipment
- Comfortable using mechanical and electrical power tools
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Keen attention to detail
- A valid driver’s license
- Good interpersonal skills
- Effective collaboration and communication skills
- Ability to lift 40+ pounds, ability to bend, and ability to stand for long periods of time
