 Here’s what you’ll be doing:The Middle School Physical Education Teacher designs, implements, and assesses a dynamic physical education program that:Promotes student health, fitness, and motor skills developmentFosters a classroom culture of inclusion, rigor, and joyAligns with state standards and KIPP’s expectations for growthIntegrates character development, teamwork, and leadershipThis role works within the broader mission of KIPP to prepare students academically and socially for success in high school, college, and beyond.Key ResponsibilitiesInstruction & CurriculumPlan and deliver standards-aligned PE lessons (e.g. Florida State Standards, National Standards for Physical Education)Use a progression of units (fitness, sports, movement, wellness, health) and assess student masteryAdapt and differentiate instruction so that all students (including those with IEPs, varying ability levels) can access and succeedUse data (fitness testing, formative assessments, observations) to inform instruction and intervene when students struggleProvide timely feedback to students on performance, progress, and areas for growthCulture & Classroom ManagementEstablish clear routines, procedures, and expectations for safety, transitions, and student behavior in the gym, field, or outdoor spaceUphold the school’s culture and values (e.g. student accountability, respect, personal responsibility)Model and teach social-emotional skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadershipFoster a classroom environment where every student feels physically and emotionally safe, valued, and challengedCollaboration & School EngagementCollaborate with grade-level teams, other specialty teachers, and general classrooms to integrate physical education with cross-curricular goals (e.g. science of movement, math in sport)Communicate with families about student progress, fitness goals, and ways to support healthy habits at homeParticipate in staff meetings, professional development, and school-wide culture planningSupport and supervise field days, interscholastic events, after-school sports or clubs, and safety protocolsCoordinate with school operations (facility scheduling, equipment maintenance, safety checks)Professional Growth & AccountabilityEngage in coaching cycles, peer observations, and feedback to continuously improve instructional practiceUse a growth mindset: reflect on lesson outcomes, try new strategies, revise plansStay current in best practices in physical education, inclusive PE, adaptive PE, and health & wellness educationContribute to school goals (academic, fitness, culture, student growth metrics)
