Sr. PainterThe University of Miami/UHealth department of Facilities has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Sr. Painter to work at the UHealth Medical Campus. The Sr. Painter applies coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel or lacquer to decorate and protect exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings and structures throughout the facilities. Further, the Sr. Painter takes on the more complicated and detailed tasks and mentors junior staff. This is a certified position which consists of painting buildings, fixtures and various equipment. Provides direct supervision to the craft painters. Makes job assignments, adjust schedules to maintain manpower levels consistent with available craftsmen and inspects and checks the work of the painters. Instructions are received from the Facilities Manager.
Prepares surfaces for painting and fills nail holes, cracks, and joints with fillers.
Selects premixed paints or mixes required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint to match specified colors.
Provides rough estimates for man-hours and material requirements to appropriate managing staff.
Tapes, floats, and textures walls and ceilings.
Erects scaffolding or sets up ladder to perform tasks above ground level.
Supervised the preparation, patching, finishing and maintaining of all surfaces (wood, plaster, drywall, steel, concrete, brick, etc) by recognized procedures and techniques of the painting trade.
Responds to requests for painting, preparing, repairing and maintaining all surfaces, interior and exterior in conjunction with decorated or protected areas 9including furniture and equipment)
Inspects the work site to determine methods of repair; supplies tools and the level of manpower needed to successfully complete the work.
Assigns painters to specific task and supervises these activities, assisting in layout, fabrication and assembly problems as required.
Provides for the transportation of tools, equipment and materials to the job site.
Order materials including tools necessary to complete the work.
Supervises shop painter in preparation and mixing of necessary paints and completing of various shop projects.
Coordinates the activities of the painters to coincide with those of other crafts as required in the pursuit of the work.
Prepares surfaces to be painted, removes dirt, scale, rust, old paint, grease and other materials; scrapes, and sands, and applies sizing.
Applies paint to interior and exterior of buildings as well as to a variety of furniture and equipment.
Rigs and erects scaffolding; hauls and erects ladders, does a variety of other work closely related to painting for minor repairs to equipment and apparatus.

High School diploma or equivalent
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience

Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships. Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and practices to the painting trade; considerable knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the work.

Knowledge of washing and cleaning materials and techniques. Painting, brush, roller or spray applications techniques for all types of materials familiar to painting trade.
Recognize procedures and techniques of the trade along with technical information available in manuals, technical bulletins and manufacturers’ specifications and recommendations.
Responsible to see that work is performed in accordance with OSHA Safety.
Must understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Skills in the use and care of paints, brushes, spray guns, and other equipment of the painting trade.
Must have experience in applying all types of primers, lacquers, paints, varnish, etc
Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
