H&J Contracting, Inc.is hiring a Welding Assistant to train and learn under and experienced certified skilled welder in the fabrication and repair of heavy equipment. This is an entry level position.
Welders use acetylene and electrical equipment in the fabricating, heating, welding, cutting, and brazing of ferrous and non-ferrous metals in accordance with standard trade practices. Performs other work as required. Direction is provided by Master Welder and Service Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (May include but not limited to the following)
1. Welds shafts, cams, spindles, hubs, and bushings on heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, etc.
2. Straightens and rebuilds heavy duty equipment.
3. Performs aluminum welding.
4. Welds off-road trucks, water tanks, stainless steel, and brass fittings.
5. Fabricates various objects from oral instructions.
6. Performs miscellaneous welding work required.
7. Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless operation.
8. Creates and updates written of work accomplished.
9. Maintains open communication with his or her immediate supervisors.
10. Performs other related duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Qualifications: One year minimum of welding experience, or the completion of a recognized welding apprenticeship.
Ability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds.
Ability to use the standard tools, materials, motions, and practices of the welding trade.
Ability to plan welding work and make estimates of materials required.
Clean equipment using appropriate materials.
Remain in a standing position for extended periods of time, and work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements.
Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
Ability to organize work and carry through established procedures and work plans.
Ability to communicate with coworkers, supervisors in a professional manner.
