JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for the maintenance, operation, and improvement of the Southeastern Livestock Pavilion (SELP) and for the promotion, management, and administration of the facility including its effective use, event planning, and proper maintenance of the facility and all associated vehicles and equipment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Coordinates the daily management and operation of the SELP facilities and amenities.
Oversees the marketing and securing of events for the betterment of the community while
maximizing the generation of revenue.
Coordinates the routine maintenance of the 4-H Farm and provides assistance to other
departments as required.
Prepares appropriate summary reports, budgets, schedules, and work orders for all staff, both
facilities, their conditions, and usage.
Oversees the meeting, contracting, and planning of a wide range of various events, while
coordinating and scheduling staff to provide excellent customer service to both external and
internal customers.
Manages in-house staff and contractual personnel in the daily operation of the SELP facilities.
Supervises, coordinates, and directs subordinate supervisory personnel engaged in operations,
maintenance, and security.
Tracks revenues generated and expenses accrued for each type of event at the SELP.
Plans work schedules in-house improvement projects and inspects works in process.
Leads in the preparation, review, and approval of necessary bid documents in support of inhouse projects.
Reviews completion of and coordinates acceptance of projects as part of the Capital
Improvement Program with other senior staff members.
Inspects County property and facilities for safety hazards and required repairs.
Reviews and approves detailed work and reports and prepares personnel evaluations.
Oversees the development and implementation of an emergency action plan for the SELP.
Oversees the annual inventory of all SELP and 4-H Farm equipment and machinery.
Oversees the creation and implementation of the SELP Master Plan, Strategic Plan, and other
operational initiatives and guiding documents.
Assists in the development of various policies and procedures and ensures compliance with
such.
Serves on Executive Board of Southeastern Youth Fair and attends all meetings.
Assists in establishing department goals and objectives, provides recommendations for the
establishment of standards, procedures, department policies, forms, and regulations, and
evaluates progress toward accomplishment of assigned goals and objectives.
Ensures compliance with County and City of Ocala ordinances, facility rules, and regulations as
they relate to the operation and security of the SELP. Reports problems to law enforcement
agencies.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with law enforcement agencies,
including Sheriff, Ocala Police, and Salvation Army. Coordinates with other agencies,
departments to ensure proper support of activities or joint projects are accomplished.
Oversees the supervision of inmate and community service worker labor forces while
performing various duties at the SELP and/or the 4-H Farm.
Provides excellent customer service to members of the general public and other County
employees. Personal contact occurs with other employees of the unit, employees of other
departments in the County, citizens, and customers of the department. Service is provided in
person or by phone contact.

Performs other related job duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION
This position is responsible for direct supervision over County employees. Includes assigning,
directing, evaluating, and reviewing work of subordinate employees. Responsibilities include
providing on-the-job training; evaluating job performance; recommending selection of new staff
members, promotions, status changes, and discipline; and planning, scheduling, and coordinating
work operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; and three (3) years’ experience in related field with one (1)
year experience in facility management; or an equivalent combination of education and
experience.
Licenses or Certifications:
Possession of a valid, State of Florida driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle. Requirement
exists at the time of hire and as a condition of continued employment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals,
technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style
and format.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of
managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions,
proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions mathematical or
diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Ability to function independently as an expert in matters of code, rules, policy, analysis,
accounting systems, or technical systems.
Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in maintenance of
livestock and equine facilities.
Knowledge of the proper and safe use of machinery and power equipment utilized in
facility maintenance.
Knowledge of OSHA standards and requirements.
Knowledge of equine science relative to safety, care, and handling of animals, trailering and tack, show ring preparation and conditions, etc.
Ability to operate a revenue-based facility in an effective and efficient manner.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to market facilities, book events, handle set up for events, oversee cleanup of facilities after events, and to maintain facilities and equipment.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and members of the general public and other agencies.
Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
Ability to take a teamwork approach to the job by cooperating with others, offering to help others when needed, and considering larger organization or team goals rather than individual concerns. Includes the ability to build a constructive team spirit where team members are committed to the goals and objectives of the team.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is medium work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will occasionally be required to stand, walk,
sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel,
crouch or crawl, talk or hear, taste or smell.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in various indoor and outdoor environments. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock; and will frequently be required to work in outdoor weather conditions.
