About our company and the job:
We are a small butterfly release company that ships live butterflies across the United States for any event, including funerals, birthdays, weddings, etc. as well as to zoo/butterfly/garden exhibits. We’ve been in operation for 13 years.
We are looking for 1 full time and 1 part time employee to join our team for butterfly season! The season runs from March 1 - November 15 every year. We raise and ship all butterflies indoors. This is not an outside job, unless washing nets. This is a fast paced, repetitive job. Pay is $12/hour. Please let us know of any questions you may have after reading the details below. Job tasks include:
- Learning how to handle the life cycle of the Painted Lady butterfly (from egg to adult)
- Packing and shipping live butterflies
- Paying extremely close attention to the details of each order
- Feeding caterpillars and butterflies
- Washing nets
- Pulling, gluing and hanging large amounts of pupae
- Flicking caterpillars on to food
- Putting together shipping boxes
- Making release boxes
- Folding release envelopes
- Cutting coffee filters
- Using a hot glue gun
You need to be okay with:
- Getting your hands dirty. You will be outside washing nets, handling caterpillars and getting their frass (poop) on you daily, and be exposed to butterfly "dust."
- Standing on your feet for multiple hours at a time.
