Key duties involve interpreting blueprints, scheduling work, ordering materials, managing equipment, and maintaining records of labor and materials. This role requires strong leadership and a deep understanding of concrete techniques, safety regulations (like OSHA), and project specifications.
Key responsibilities
Crew and project supervision: Lead and direct concrete laborers, ensuring tasks are completed on schedule and to the correct specifications. Task coordination: Schedule daily activities, including mixing, pouring, finishing, and curing concrete.
Safety and quality assurance: Enforce safety standards, maintain a safe work environment, and ensure the quality of work meets or exceeds company and client expectations.
Planning and resource management: Interpret blueprints and drawings to determine labor and material needs, order materials, and manage equipment use and maintenance.
Communication and reporting: Report project progress, field issues, and budget concerns to project managers and other stakeholders. Maintain daily work reports, time sheets, and material records.
Technical expertise: Provide guidance on formwork, rebar installation, and various finishing techniques. Use tools for site layout and ensure elevations and grades are correct.
Essential skills and qualifications
Experience: Proven experience as a concrete worker and supervisor is crucial.
Technical skills: Ability to read blueprints, interpret plans, and use survey stakes for layout. Knowledge of various concrete techniques and equipment is essential.
