JOB DESCRIPTION
The St. Andrew Bay Pilots are the harbor pilots of record for the port of Panama City. We are a small group of dedicated professionals that are responsible for the safe navigation of large vessels in St. Andrew Bay. We operate two Pilot Vessels, each 39 feet or less, which are docked in the C.S.S. Yacht Basin on Beck Avenue in St. Andrews.
The St. Andrew Bay Pilots are currently seeking a full time PILOT BOAT OPERATOR. This vacancy is to replace an experienced operator who departed due to a medical condition.
The PILOT BOAT OPERATOR is responsible for operating the two pilot boats used to embark Pilots on Sea Going Vessels. The PILOT BOAT OPERATOR should be experienced with small boats, VHF communications, small vessel handling, and basic boat maintenance. Lifting small loads at times and assisting with boat operations is also part of the job. Training will be provided for maneuvering our vessels and coming alongside ships.
QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS
Local to Panama City or the surrounding area
US Coast Guard OUPV license
TWIC Card
Ability to pass a drug test and participate in our drug surveillance program for compliance purposes.
Must have a reliable vehicle
COMPENSATION
The PILOT BOAT OPERATOR compensation is $225 per day plus job bonuses and maintenance work at an additional rate.
SCHEDULE
the PILOT BOAT OPERATOR works 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off. During the weeks that the PILOT BOAT OPERATOR is on duty, he or she is to be available 24 hours a day for vessel movements. Vessel Movements last from 1-3 hours. Some days have several movements, and some days have no movements.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
Are you semi-retired and looking for an active job on the water? This position has been filled almost exclusively with ex military or semi-retired boaters that love being on the water and being part of our culture. Usually, operators stay for several years once they become comfortable with our operation. We are a very happy culture and are interested in having someone that fits in with our group.
