Our ideal candidate will have retail manager skills with a sharp business mindset. You should also be skilled at organizing and solving problems. We are looking for someone who has basic computer skills, is business savvy, as well as experience working a POS system. You will need to be willing to work a flexible, and sometimes changing schedule based on business and staffing needs.
Purpose of Position: Gift Shop Manager directly oversees daily operations of NBSTCC’s retail operation, both in-store and through e-commerce platforms. Responsible for operating a profitable store while creating a pleasant customer shopping experience and promoting a positive work environment.
Position Summary: Gift Shop Manager is responsible for developing strategies to improve customer service, drive sales, increase profitability, as well as creating store policies and marketing programs that will increase sales and grow existing customer base. Functions as store purchaser and is responsible for selecting merchandise aligning with NBSTCC conservation mission and brand while supporting upcoming programs, exhibits and special events. Cultivates partnerships with Consignors and vendors. Maintains high store standards and working conditions promoting a positive environment for both customers and team. Ensures customer needs are met, complaints are resolved, and service is friendly and efficient. Ensures all products and displays are merchandised effectively to maximize sales and profitability.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Responsible for forecasting stock needs, monitoring current trends, identifying future trends and customer buying habits to drive inventory selection and purchases aligning with NBSTCC’s mission and brand.
Maintains inventory control through proper receipt of merchandise and periodic physical inventory counts.
Accountable for sales performance and preparing gift shop budget for approval.
Functions as store purchaser.
Manages consignor relationships, reviews products, sources new consignment items, updates contracts, arranges monthly payment for consignors and fosters positive partnerships.
Point of contact for the POS system, holding expert knowledge to trouble shoot and resolve any discrepancies.
Forecasts staffing needs working with Volunteer Manager to develop recruiting strategies for optimal staffing.
Ensures daily operations of gift shop and that team members follow service and selling guidelines.
Maintains Gift Shop SOP manual and updates department areas of communication.
Provides encouragement and is responsible for coaching, mentoring, and developing team members.
Demonstrates exemplary stewardship of NBSTCC resources and public funds.
Attend staff meeting and special events as directed.
Performs other duties assigned by Chief Operations Officer in relation to NBSTCC’s retail operations.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
College degree in business administration, marketing, merchandising, other related field or equivalent experience preferred. Minimum of three years’ retail management experience.
Should have Knowledge of administrative procedures, personnel management, and supervisory techniques
Should be detail oriented and self-motivated with the ability to make decisions, resolve problems and discrepancies based on knowledge of gift shop procedures.
Must be able to use an array of web-based tools and understanding of social media a plus.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stock store merchandise in storage and display areas.
