We’re a small nonprofit hiring a part-time bookkeeper. Almost all the work is done online remotely from home because we have Quickbooks Online. We prefer someone within an hour of Sarasota, so you can pick up and drop off paperwork about once a month. But we may be open to 100% remote as most of the records like credit card activity are online. 95% of the work can be done any day of the week and during the day or night. About 5% might involve things like calling a vendor during weekday business hours.
We’re only interested in paying by the hour (not flat fee) as the workload will likely increase every few months, and it’s also the most fair: so if you do more work, you get paid accordingly. Our bookkeeping currently only averages about 80 hours per year because we don’t have many entries (our total annual spending has been about $100k the last few years) … and our books are sort of basic. But the amount of work will be increasing in the coming months and years.
If you’re good at any of the following, we can also consider you for doing work in these areas:
administrative assistance
recruiting / hiring
website project management
maybe other areas like marketing
For the bookkeeping, you must know Quickbooks well and have at least the equivalent of two years of full-time bookkeeping experience, and at least two months of experience in each major area of bookkeeping like AR, AP and reconciliations. Our bookkeeper also handles things such as paying bills, sending out end of year 1099s and keeping our payment methods up-to-date with vendors. You must be organized, responsible, pay great attention to detail and be adept at navigating websites and accounts online.
Our part-time bookkeeper is departing after nine years because her full-time job has gotten too busy. Over the past few years, she wrote a manual describing most things that she does.
If interested, let us know:
How much you'd be per hour.
How many years of full-time bookkeeping experience you have. If you did PT work, give the equivalent in FT. For example: 20 hours a week for 8 years is the equivalent of 4 FT years. If you become a finalist, we'll need to verify your experience.
How skilled you are at QB on a 1-10 scale with 10 being master, 9 being expert, 8 great, 7 very good, 5-6 intermediate, 3-4 below average, 1-2 novice and 0 none. If you have 0, we can consider you if you have a few years of overall experience and have used similar software.
