In this role, you work in the maintenance, construction, and repair of county rights-of-ways, stormwater conveyance, and facilities. Perform repair and installation of concrete sidewalks, curb & gutter, driveways, and handicap ramps.

Construct complex forming projects utilizing wood and metal products while maintaining and setting to proper grade.

Perform drainage pipe installation, and build custom concrete catch basins, headwalls, and spillways.

Perform asphalt repair and maintenance on county roadways.

Operation of tools and equipment associated with road repair and modifications, road cuts, and pothole repair.

Duties include setting up the required Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) for safety, flagging per MOT standards, and performing labor-intensive tasks associated with shoveling, spreading, and compacting asphalt.

Conduct labor tasks to keep roadways and rights-of-way clear of obstructions.

Conduct manual trimming of trees for proper clearance and site distance problems, using chainsaws, weed eaters, pole saws, and manual tools associated.

Operate specialized equipment: Dump trucks, backhoes, small excavators, skid loaders, front-end loaders, and other related equipment required to maintain and repair road rights-of-ways and stormwater systems.

Respond to customer complaints relating to road right-of-way issues, including ADA complaints, asphalt repair complaints, line of site problems, and roadway blockage concerns.

Work Hours:

Monday - Friday, 4 days a week

6:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

10-hour shifts per day and 40 hour hours per week

On-Call Required

About YouMinimum Qualifications:

A High School Diploma or its equivalent.

Two (2) years of experience in the construction, maintenance, and repair of vehicle and pedestrian travelway systems and /or road rights-of-way areas.

A valid Florida Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement is required within six (6) months of hire. Paid for by Sarasota County.

A valid Florida Driver's License at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in operating equipment used for concrete and asphalt maintenance and repairs in and around road rights-of-way.

Physical Demands: Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening.
