WANTED - Classic Car Marketer
We are an internet classic car dealership located in Sarasota searching for a highly talented classic car MARKETER (not sales, but marketing). We have a highly talented salesman that is overwhelmed with slaes and needs a teammate a teammate to perform MARKETING which creates sales of our cars. We market cars on an individual basis, we do not market our dealership.
Those who are truly interested in this position will read the entire post here. Those that don't want to read it, and complain it's too long aren't the type I'd hire anyway.
So, let me explain what we do and what we are looking for; we buy classics from all over the country, ship them here, put them through our detail/rejuvenation process (not restoration), photo each car in our automotive turntable photo booth, craft the incredible marketing, post each car all over the internet, answer phone calls/emails/texts, then we close deals.
I'll bullet these for folks like me that like bullets:
- we buy classics from all over the country (we have two buyers/hunters on our team)
- we also consign cars from this region, and sometimes from out of state
- we get the cars shipped to our facility here in Sarasota (we are shipping brokers)
- we put each car through our detail/rejuvenation process (not restoration) - make cars 'sellable'
- we photo each car in our automotive turntable photo booth (we are the only ones in the region with this $110,000 booth)
- we craft the incredible marketing more on this in detail below
- we post each car all over the internet
- we answer phone calls/emails/texts
- we close deals - get the money
Rather than having two salespeople who always argue about whose customer it is, who gets the commission, who is better than the other.we only have one salesman. But, the marketing person and the sales person work together on each car to get it sold. Each person on the marketing/sales team has their talent that is combined for a common goal.
Marketing and sales are different. Very different. Marketing makes the phone ring, sales closes the deal. Marketing people don't close deals, and salespeople don't make the phone ring. With that said we are looking for a MARKETING person, not a sales person.
Marketing is defined as the creative genius to craft outstanding marketing of each car. We do not brand our dealership, we ‘brand’ each car. Our buyers don't care about our dealership (as long as our reviews are stellar) - they care about the car they are interested in. A new Honda store is different they must brand themselves heavily against the other Honda dealers selling the same exact product.
The battle field we fight on daily is to beat other cars on the market, not other dealers. We want the buyer to buy OUR Ferrari, not the other Ferrari's on the market. That's why we are laser focused on marketing each car rather wasting time marketing our dealership.
Creativity and differentiation are components to marketing that sell our cars. The difference between our cars on the internet and the cars we compete against is that our marketing creates EXCITEMENT. The more excitement our marketing creates, the more the salesman’s phone rings. The more his phone rings the more deals we close. The more deals we close the more money we (you) make.
Well, I guess it’s time to talk about the money. We pay X% of the net profit on each car. I’m not going to blab out on Craigslist what we net on average per car because that’s not public information. Suffice to say that is not a low paying position. Remember this; you are teamed with the salesman - the two of you pull each other up. He needs you, you need him.
The perfect person for this position has the following qualities;
We need a marketing-minded person, not a deal closer, but rather someone who creates excitement through amazing creative advertising/listings all over the internet.
We need someone that tracks the various sites our cars are posted on.
We need someone that explores new sites to list on and new ways to market each car.
We need someone that knows how to write. If you write like a hillbilly this ain’t gonna werk.
We need someone that sees each car as a child at a day-care center each car needs different attention, and can’t let a car just sit in the corner.
We need someone that always try to improve the marketing - try new things, think outside of the box.
We need someone to create videos that create excitement.
We need someone that is always thinking how to knock the front teeth out of the competition - remember…we compete against other cars, not other dealers.
We need someone that has the time to spend on this - this is not the 3rd part-time job.
We need someone who can work well with our salesman who is the Elon Musk of classic car sales - he is young and can outsell a 30-year veteran of car sales. He is genuine, smart, authentic, ethical, non-aggressive, smooth as silk, crosses his T’s and dots his I’s, caring, friendly, people pleasure, and customers adore him because he’s fresh and young without bullshit.
We need someone that understands buyers - who buys what and why. A ’55 Chevy is a vastly different buyer than a TR6 buyer. if you don't know what a TR6 is then we're already fighting an uphill challenge.
We need someone that knows his classic car makes and models.
We need someone that can communicate with our reps at Bring-a-trailer, eBay, Autotrader, Facebook, Hemmings, etc.
We need someone that likes to research cars.
We need someone that is NOT living desperately or broke pay check to pay check, but still has fire under his ass. Broke ass desperate people are no good to work with - they mismanage money, cry a lot, blame society, have bad luck, piss people off…no bueno.
We need someone that's not a boozer or a weed head - we are all crisp and clean power-heads hereno hungover mush-heads.
We need someone that is dedicated to his craft and is proud of what he does.
We need someone that is smart with a higher-than-average IQ - don’t worry we don’t test IQ’s - we can spot a dumbshit in two seconds…hopefully you can too.
We need someone that knows Photoshop - has Photoshop on his computer - has a computer.
We have a nice office here for you, but you don’t need to be here if your creative juices flow better somewhere else. It’s just good camaraderie to work here with the salesman and to be amongst the cars. With that said, it won’t work if you live in Costa Rica or some distant place.
The whole concept of a marketing person working with the salesman is that the two hold each other accountable. It’s also to pull each other up to new heights, versus just pushing yourself, or pushing someone else. Two heads are better than one applies well here. Throw ideas around on each car. Sell more cars!
Sorry, we do not train from the ground up. Qualified candidates need to have some level of marketing experience. Yes, we can teach you tons of new strategies for your craft, but it’d be great if we found someone so superior that THEY would end up teaching us a thing or two.
I’d love to talk to you if you think you’d be an outstanding candidate for this position. I don’t need a resume…I just need to hear why you think you’d be awesome for this position. Emailing works the best for our first contact point. Even though I left my phone number here let's ping emailsUNLESS YOU KNOW YOU ARE THE MAGIC we are looking for. Then BY ALL MEANS CALL ME RIGHT AWAY.
I look forward to hearing from you.
My name is Tom
