Homeschool teacher needed for six children, ages 6-15, on Merritt Island.
Grade levels K/1st-9th grade, with combination physical and virtual curriculum. Three kids are learning disabled, with one of those classified as intellectually disabled. We need a teacher who is sensitive to mental health issues and willing to learn about trauma-based care. Due to the special needs in our household, we are super flexible, though we do benefit from routines. We can build our routines on your schedule, starting any time of morning and going as long as you are available. We can work four or five days a week, as long as everyone is making progress.
As our teacher, you have the freedom to build and change curriculum anytime. You will have the freedom to create the learning environment of your choice. You can take off anytime as well, as long as you keep us informed. This is basically a dream job for a retired teacher or someone fresh out of college. You will need to be willing to take some kids to/from a few appointments like speech and occupational therapy, as needed. If you are able to come in later and work later one day a week, that would also be great. Fieldtrips are also encouraged.
Must have Florida teaching certificate and be willing to sign up for payment through Step Up for Students.
The story: I really wish I could spend all my days homeschooling my kids and pay someone else to cook/clean/organize/decorate my house. Alas, I have to do the dirty work while you get the fun job of instructing my kiddos, because we have scholarships that will pay good wages for a part-time tutor with a Florida teaching certificate through Step Up for Students. If you come instruct my kids, I will be free to do the housekeeping. All six of my kids are adopted, and it is our privilege to attempt to love, educate, and prepare them for adulthood. We are followers of Jesus, but we understand that life is not black-and-white. It's messy, like our house.
