Roots Restaurant is a breakfast and lunch spot in the heart of downtown Melbourne, known for our friendly service, quality ingredients, and laid-back vibe. We’re open 8am–2pm, 7 days a week, and we’re looking for a skilled, reliable cook to join our kitchen team.
Position Summary
The Breakfast / Short Order Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking breakfast and lunch menu items quickly and accurately in a fast-paced kitchen environment. This role requires excellent multitasking skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently with a small team.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare breakfast and lunch orders including eggs, omelets, pancakes, sandwiches, salads, and daily specials
Set up and stock stations with all necessary supplies before service begins
Cook menu items in cooperation with the rest of the kitchen staff
Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, equipment, and utensils
Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines
Assist with prep work as needed before or after service
Communicate with servers to ensure smooth order flow
Qualifications
Experience: 1+ year cooking in a restaurant or breakfast environment preferred (short-order experience a plus)
Skills:
Strong multitasking, communication, and time management skills
Ability to stand for long periods
Reliable and punctual with a positive attitude
Able to work in a small, collaborative team environment
Schedule & Pay
Hours: 8am–2pm, 3–4 days/week to start (additional shifts possible)
Pay: $16–$18/hour + (based on experience)
Schedule: Flexible; weekend availability preferred
