Job Summary: This is skilled work performing vehicle and equipment preventative maintenance and repairs.
Job duties include:
Performs both general maintenance and repair, and precision maintenance and repair, on aircraft engines installed in airboats, and aircraft engine components (e.g., magnetos and carburetors).
Performs preventative maintenance and major and minor repairs on the District's light fleet, heavy equipment, hydraulic units, and systems. Conducts routine preventive maintenance and service tasks on all fleet vehicles, including 1-ton and 3/4-ton pickups, dump trucks, lowboy tractors, heavy equipment, tractors with mower or disc attachments, generators, pumps, outboard motors, and other tools and equipment. Maintains and carries out scheduled servicing and operational repairs for project pumps, engines, vehicles, and other small equipment used on projects (engine types include diesel, gas, and alternative fuel, as well as hydraulic and electrical pumps, motors, and control units). Performs preventative maintenance checks and services for District vehicles and equipment. Cleans and maintains tools and shop equipment; executes air conditioning repairs on heavy and light equipment. Operates vehicles and equipment, such as pickup trucks, dump trucks, front-end loader, dozer, trackhoe grader, tractors, mowers, and semi-tractor trailer for testing and evaluating maintenance performed. Serves as an operator of the District's two-ton mobile maintenance truck used to perform maintenance and repairs to project and disaster recovery site equipment. Maintains and repairs pumps and power units, heavy equipment, small engines, and wheel vehicles at the Palm Bay Service Center and related District work sites.
Uses computer systems to include: (1) electronic work order system in the performance of all assigned work; maintains accurate accountability of time, parts, and effort expended on preventive maintenance, checks, and services; (2) Microsoft Office suite; (3) Other District digital platforms such as Timecards, fuel, and purchase cards, and (4) Diagnostic tools.
Performs metal fabrication and welding on vehicles and equipment, as well as other related duties as directed by supervisors.
Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a high school diploma or G.E.D. and four years of experience as described above or formal education may substitute for work experience and a valid Florida Class A Commercial Driver License with Tanker N endorsement or the ability to obtain within one year from date of hire.
The District may pay for the Entry-Level Driver Training program and may reimburse for other fees associated with obtaining the CDL license through a provider of the District’s choice. After the initial Entry-Level Driver Training program paid by the District, if a CDL is not obtained, employee will be responsible for the cost of subsequent training.
SJRWMD has determined this to be a mandatory-testing position as described in Section 440.102, Florida Statutes and the Commercial Motor Vehicle Drug Testing Program as described in 49 CFR Part 382. Preferred Experience:
Precision maintenance and repair of aircraft engines installed in airboats.
Skilled In:
Analyzing engine problems, making repairs, operate and perform operational evaluation on the following: pumps, engines, vehicles, dozers, trackhoes, grader, front-end loader, tractors, mowers, lowboy transporter, aircraft engines; the use and maintenance of power tools; and identifying problems, ordering, and installing required parts.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment:
Occasionally perform work in outdoor environments in uncomfortable/extreme temperatures, inclement weather, and remote locations; set-up, lift and/or move equipment; lift and carry heavy objects, bend, kneel and couch, reach overhead, grasp, pushing and pulling, maintain a priority of safety, make effective, consistent, and defensible decisions.

Starting Salary Range: $43,763.20 - $54,662.40
Starting salary is based on qualifications and experience.
