The Director of Auditing oversees the internal audit function of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Responsible for supervision of staff and incumbent spends the majority of time communicating with, motivating, training and evaluating members while planning and directing their work. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Specific duties include:

Planning, scheduling and implementing audits in accordance with the requirements established in Department directives, the periodic risk assessment of Department programs and activities, major changes in the organization, and the direction of the agency head;

Reviewing and evaluating internal controls to ensure accountability of the Department;

Directing and coordinating the performance of all audits, reviews, special projects and performance evaluations conducted by the staff;

Ensuring audits are conducted in accordance with generally accepted government auditing standards as established by the Comptroller General of the United States;

Submitting preliminary findings and recommendations to the person responsible for supervision of the audited entity, and evaluating and providing rebuttals to responses required from the auditee;

Submitting audits final reports to the agency head and to the Auditor General;

Evaluating findings of investigations, surveys and studies to formulate policies and techniques, and recommending or determining improvements for staffing, programs or business services;

Preparing, reviewing and submitting reports concerning activities, expenses, budget, government statutes and rulings, and other items affecting business or program services;

Coordinating with Divisions annually within the Department to review and update performance measures and standards before submission;

Performing as liaison between the Department and the Auditor General, and other external auditors by coordinating the audits/reviews, and monitoring implementation of FDLE’s response to any external audit/review of the Department; and

Providing status reports to the agency head of corrective actions taken in response to audits of the Department conducted by the Auditor General, and providing a copy of such reports to the Joint Legislative Auditing Committee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

At least two years of experience conducting audits, management reviews, and/or special projects in accordance with the yellow book or the red book.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles and procedures;

Knowledge of methods of compiling and analyzing data;

Knowledge of basic mathematics;

Ability to supervise people;

Ability to determine work priorities, assign work and insure proper completion of work assignments;

Ability to understand, interpret and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures;

Ability to review, analyze and evaluate data; and

Ability to determine the extent of compliance, the extent to which assets are accounted for and the reliability of accounting procedures utilized within an organization.

BASE SALARY:

$82.400.00

BACKGROUND:

FDLE requires an extensive background process of all recommended applicants.
