Tallahassee General Contractor is looking for a dedicated and hardworking Asphalt Paving Foreman with experience in the asphalt industry who will manage a crew and oversee the asphalt-laying process during a project. They will arrange the work of a paving crew and coordinate activities of workers engaged in paving asphalt. FDOT paving experience is preferred.

Provides overall on-site leadership and management on a paving job-site. The Foreman is considered the Company’s representative and main point of contact on the paving site. The Foreman handles the flow of communication between Client’s on-site representatives, on-site inspectors, subcontractors, and contractor’s personnel. The Foreman plans, coordinates, and supervises onsite functions including scheduling, material control, and day-to-day direction of field personnel.

Key Duties:

Coordinates plans and supervises paving crew, subcontractors, and activities for the assigned paving operation of the project. Must know all aspects of paving.

Be prompt and timely for all assigned shifts, schedules, and projects.

Daily submission of electronic timecards, equipment, and daily reports.

Liaison with other departments, asphalt plant, etc. to ensure all required materials, equipment, and inspections support the project schedule.

Coordinates plans and specifications with the Project Manager, clarifying discrepancies. Ability to read plans and specifications (application rates, grades, slopes, drainage etc.)

Optimizes operations quality/procedures/production.

Chooses techniques and defines asphalt means and methods.

Supervises Paving Crew and has the ability to cross train effectively.

Can fill in any position on the Paving crew as needed.

Follows proper Safety protocols.

Qualifications & Requirements:

General. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each key duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and Experience. This position typically is not an entry-level job, as it requires demonstrable previous experience as a Paving Foreman, preferably a minimum of 5 years as a Paving Foreman. Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with management and fellow employees. 5+ years of materials, methods, maintenance, and operation of equipment required with an emphasis on asphalt and paving. Valid Florida driver’s license and satisfactory driving record required.

Physical Demands. The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by a Paving Forman to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform Key Duties.

Frequently work with hands extended overhead, sometimes in conjunction with the operation of hand power tools.

Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 30 pounds and, at times, as much as 50 pounds, as may be assigned.

Manual dexterity to hand-carry generators, power tools, and hand tools.

Physical dexterity involving stretching, proper placement of legs, and use of arms and hands in repetitive motions.

Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.

Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.

Must be able to climb on and off heavy equipment safely.
