The Project Manager is a seasoned leader responsible for delivering complex FDOT and government roadway projects safely, on time, and within budget. This role not only oversees day-to-day project execution but also plays a key part in developing the next generation of project leaders. The Project Manager is expected to mentor and collaborate with other project managers, sharing expertise in FDOT compliance, cost control, and scheduling to elevate the performance of the entire team.
Reporting Relationships
Reports directly to and is accountable to the Regional Vice President.
Education & Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (required).
Minimum 10 years of proven experience managing FDOT or other government roadway and paving projects from bid through final acceptance.
Demonstrated success working with FDOT Resident Engineers, CEI firms, and public agencies.
Proven track record of successfully managing project budgets, schedules, subcontractors, and field operations.
Equivalent combinations of education and extensive relevant experience will be considered.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to coach and develop other project managers into future leaders.
Deep knowledge of FDOT specifications, methods, and best practices for road construction.
Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and contract terms.
Familiarity with construction lien laws and contract compliance.
Competence in cost control, estimating, and analyzing as-built costs.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
Skilled in using project management software, scheduling tools, and digital reporting platforms.
Key Responsibilities
1. Deliver projects safely, on time, and within budget while meeting all FDOT and contractual specifications.
2. Mentor, coach, and collaborate with other Project Managers to elevate project management capabilities across the region.
3. Perform quantity take-offs, determine material requirements, and prepare detailed resource plans.
4. Coordinate subcontractors and monitor progress, ensuring compliance with schedule and quality standards.
5. Prepare and submit schedules, material source approvals, invoices, claims, and other documentation.
6. Verify subcontractor payments and ensure accurate cost tracking.
7. Collect accounts receivable and manage project cash flow.
8. Analyze job cost reports, comparing estimated vs. as-built costs to improve future project performance.
9. Maintain strong relationships with FDOT, CEI representatives, subcontractors, and owners.
Safety & Environmental Responsibilities
Enforce and abide by Ajax’s Safety and Environmental rules and all federal, state, and local regulations.
Ensure adherence to Ajax’s quality standards on every project.
Working Conditions
Combination of field, asphalt plant, lab, and office environments.
Availability to work days, nights, and weekends as required by project schedules.
Physical Demands
Must be capable of sitting, standing, walking, climbing, reaching, bending, lifting a minimum of 45 lbs., carrying, pushing/pulling, and performing low-level work. Good vision, hearing, and communication skills required.
