Position Summary:
The Hardware Worker in a millwork shop is responsible for assembling, installing, and preparing hardware for custom millwork projects. This role requires hands-on experience with hardware components used in cabinetry and millwork, as well as a solid understanding of installation techniques. The worker will collaborate closely with carpenters, fabricators, and other shop staff to ensure all hardware is fitted accurately and efficiently.
Responsibilities
1. Hardware Installation:
Install various types of hardware, including hinges, drawer slides, cabinet pulls, locks, and other hardware components on custom millwork pieces.
Ensure proper alignment, fit, and secure attachment of all hardware to meet project specifications.
Verify that all hardware installations comply with shop standards and client requirements.
2. Hardware Preparation:
Prepare and organize hardware for different millwork projects, ensuring each project has the correct components.
Identify and pre-drill or mark spots for hardware installation on cabinetry, doors, and other millwork items.
3. Collaboration:
Work closely with carpenters and other shop staff to ensure that all hardware is installed at the appropriate stage of production.
Communicate effectively with the design and production teams to clarify any hardware specifications or installation issues.
4. Quality Control:
Inspect installed hardware for proper functionality and appearance.
Adjust, tighten, or repair hardware as needed to meet the company’s quality standards.
Troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise during hardware installation.
5. Inventory and Stock Management:
Assist in maintaining an organized inventory of hardware components, ensuring that the necessary items are available for current and upcoming projects.
Report any shortages or damaged materials to the shop supervisor.
6. Maintenance:
Maintain tools and equipment related to hardware installation, ensuring they are in good working condition.
Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe by following the company’s safety protocols.
Qualifications:
License: Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent (required).
Experience: Previous experience working in a millwork shop or similar environment is preferred but not required, we are willing to train motivated individuals who are eager to learn. Familiarity with hardware installation in cabinetry or woodworking is a plus.
Knowledge: Understanding of hardware types and installation techniques for millwork applications (e.g., hinges, locks, drawer slides).
Skills: Strong attention to detail, good hand-eye coordination, and the ability to use basic hand tools such as drills, screwdrivers, and measuring tools.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for long periods, and perform physically demanding tasks such as bending, kneeling, and reaching.
