Know proper storage, treatment, and disposal of hazardous materials.

Be aware of hazards associated with hazardous wastes.

Work well with the public, clients, and colleagues.

Field phone calls and communicate with Field Supervisors.

Perform limited chemical tests and handle various chemicals.

Prepare equipment and keep accurate field log books.

Perform manual labor tasks (e.g., sweeping, shoveling, pushing, pulling).

Work outside in very hot temperatures, confined spaces, and around hazardous chemicals.

Confined space work includes petroleum and wastewater treatment tanks.

Technicians average 55 hours/week (range: 40-80 hours).

Crews typically consist of 3-5 people (driver, equipment operator, technician).

Fully on-site position in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida.

Contract position for 6 months.

Currently running 2 shifts: 12-hour shifts (6 AM - 6 PM), 7 days/week.

Will shift to 3 shifts: 10-hour shifts/day when more people are hired.

This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of 10-years. Responsibilities As a Biological Science Technician, you will perform the following duties: Organizes and schedules a wide variety of natural resource management projects. Collects and organizes field data. Prepares reports and recommendations for planning, protection, and mitigation activities. Installs, operates, and maintains resource management equipment (e.g., tools, traps, and sampling, monitoring, and laboratory equipment). Inventories equipment and orders replacement parts. Conducts animal and plant monitoring to assess post hurricane biological response including collection and entry of data. Conducts invasive plant management in hurricane impacted coastal areas through identification, mapping, and physical/chemical control. Conducts habitat protection and restoration activities in storm impacted areas of park. Operates all-terrain vehicles. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males. Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: research activity or control program work; nursery work that required the growing and maintenance of plants in a controlled environment; or work comparable to that with a large dairy farm where production records, animal environment, and sanitary conditions were kept in accordance with modern dairy practice. You must include hours per week worked.
