Heavy Equipment Operator

Job Summary:

The Equipment Operator operates a variety of equipment utilized in the construction, maintenance and repair of roads, highways, parking lots, underground utilities, stormwater systems, landscape, and other large site jobs. Equipment Operators are Team Members and must have team player mentality.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Operates construction, excavation, hauling, and maintenance equipment including trackhoes, backhoes, front-end loaders, bulldozers, excavators, or grade tractors.

Prepares construction sites for building, demolition, or excavation.

Uses excavating machinery to dig holes and trenches used in structural concrete and/or underground utility systems.

Uses equipment to prepare building sites for exterior site projects such as parking lots, roadways, driveways, and sidewalks.

Operates machinery used to build roads, athletic fields, bridges, and other sitework projects.

Operates machinery to install underground pipe and stormwater structures.

Transports tools and other construction equipment to and from construction sites.

Inspects and fuels vehicle & equipment prior to beginning shift.

Performs routine maintenance and repairs.

Must be available to fulfill various team member roles – equipment operator and/or laborer.

Any other related duties as assigned by management.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Extensive knowledge of heavy machinery operation and capabilities.

Ability to read building plans related to structural concrete and land grades.

Strength to perform manual construction duties.

Must be a Team Player.

Excellent mechanical skills.

Ability to follow instructions.

Valid driver’s license, CDL preferred.

Education and Experience:

High School diploma or GED (preferred)

2 to 3 years of previous experience either in Construction, Landscape, or Lawn Maintenance industries.

1 to 2 years of experience as equipment operator in related industry.

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of operating heavy machinery.

Ability to operate machinery in all weather conditions and terrains.

Ability to work on and around outdoor project site areas that are not climate controlled. Employee may be subject to extreme variations in heat, humidity, and cold. The normal auto and air travel hazards will apply. Work will be performed near moving machinery and in, sometimes, hazardous conditions. There will be exposure to fumes, dust, airborne particles, and sometimes high and hazardous places.

Must be able to lift in excess of 75 pounds at times.
