Job Summary:

The truck/equipment mechanic will perform a variety of tasks on heavy-duty trucks, large construction vehicles, tractor trailers and landscape/construction equipment.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Performs preventive and corrective maintenance and repairs on a variety of vehicles and heavy equipment.

Diagnose and correct mechanical problems.

Welding and fabricating.

Ability to perform a variety of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic adjustments and repairs on gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and heavy construction equipment.

Ability to diagnose problems and make the appropriate adjustments, repairs, or replacements to electrical, hydraulic, engine, transmission, drive train, and mechanical systems.

Ability to use a variety of tools including but not limited to common shop hand tools, grinders, welders, power tools, precision mechanic tools.

Maintain a clean work environment and follow safe practices and procedures.

Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Required Skills/Abilities:

Strong technical aptitude with ability to learn to use and maintain equipment and machinery preferred.

Must be a team player; position requires coordination with other team members including but not limited to shop and other staff mechanics.

Must be able to properly explain and/or train field employees on proper servicing of the equipment.

Must be able to use digital software; for coding/tracking of equipment maintenance intervals.

Researching equipment manuals and safety procedures.

Daily logging of time and other tasks as related to position.

Must be proficient with use of diagnostic service software. We currently use JPRO Diagnostic Service Software; knowledge a PLUS.

Must be up to date with current government regulation as related to Construction and Landscape equipment.

Strong knowledge in diesel engines, hydraulics, welding, electrical and preventive maintenance.

Quickly troubleshoot and resolve issues with equipment and trucks.

Strong knowledge of hand and power tools.

Determine what parts and tools are necessary to make repairs.

Able to complete all required daily paperwork efficiently.

Knowledge of the applicable safety regulations and procedures.

Must have track record of performance and good attendance.

A strong sense of personal accountability and a proven track record of achieving desired results.

Competency in basic computer skills and in a Microsoft Office environment

A willingness to work long hours, overtime, days, nights, and weekends when applicable.

Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Must be able to meet company MVR requirements and have a valid Florida driver’s license.

Employer conducts drug screens

Must be able to read and write in English.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Completion of mechanical training and certification required.

3 to 5 years of experience with diesel/heavy equipment repair

Valid and in good standing driver’s license and motor vehicle record a MUST.

Welding experience - preferred, not required

CDL License - preferred, not required

Bilingual in Spanish – preferred, not required

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and stooping, turning the head and torso, reaching grasping, bending and flexing the arms, legs, wrists, hands, and fingers.

The ability to climb and balance is essential.

Must be able to lift more than 75 pounds at times.

Person may be subjected to extreme variations in heat, humidity, cold, and other weather conditions that Sunshine Land Design, Inc. has no control. Normal auto and air travel hazards will apply. Work will be performed near moving equipment and in, sometimes, hazardous conditions. There will be exposure to fumes, dust, airborne particles, and sometimes high and hazardous places.
