Live-in Caregiver/Chef/Assistant

Please Note: This is a live-in position, meaning you will be living at the client's home and working for 3 to 5 full, 24-hour days at a time. You will have regular downtime during your shifts, since the client is fairly independent when working, and also exercises with a personal trainer 5-6 hours per day.

Compensation for your service will be sent to you every 2 weeks via PayPal F&F, and is composed of a base compensation for the portion of every 24 hour shift you assist the client independently, as well as a performance component, which is based on how synchronized you are with the client – the right fit is someone intuitive who can be productive & accomplished alongside the client – operating in synchrony with the client. You can see more about what the client is looking for in terms of synchronization, and how that translates to your compensation here (make sure to view both tabs).

Client Location

The client lives the majority of the year in Miami, in a high-rise building in the Brickell neighborhood. In the summers he usually travels to visit family near Seattle, where he also lives in a high-rise, and near Chicago, where he lives in a house. IPA Team

The above needs are met by the client's In-Person Assistant (IPA) team, which you will be joining to ensure that he has this care available 24/7. Typically, this team consists of 2 people, who each work between 2 to 5 days consecutively per week (one person working at a time). It's important to the client that you have time to rest and recharge, so that you can be at your best when you are working. Note: you will be living at the client's home only while working.

You will need to be aware and available to assist at all times during your scheduled shift (see availability below) and in general you will manage your own schedule for accomplishing your other responsibilities for the day (see Asana section below).

Client Details

The client has an underlying neurological condition which caused him to need a wheelchair since the age of 15. He had a lot of physical independence when he was younger, as he was able to drive and live on his own, and unfortunately he lost a lot of that while being focused on work the past 10 years. Now in his mid-30s, he is very focused on regaining that physical independence. He exercises daily and weighs his food in order to meet his nutritional goals (currently on a slight caloric deficit to reduce body fat percentage). He also enjoys going to the beach for the benefits of swimming in saltwater and being outdoors.

The client keeps his home fairly warm (24°C/75°F) during the day because he gets cold easily, and has 2 friendly cats. He has very weak arm/legs, so he has difficulty caring for himself, and his core balance is limited, so it's important to be very cautious when moving him so that he does not fall and injure himself (he will teach you the routines and procedures in place to prevent this).

The client speaks English & Urdu fluently, speaks Spanish with a little difficulty, and can understand Hindi & some Gujarati. He is fairly minimalist and prefers small, low-key, and quiet settings. His educational background is in computer science & economics, and he has previously worked at a large tech company. He currently works remotely in wealth management, and enjoys playing chess and watching stand-up comedy.

Having had caregiver support since 2015, he is comfortable working with many different types of people. His preference is for someone who is very punctual, communicates proactively, multitasks effectively (even being one step ahead of him) and is exceptionally thorough in their work (details are very important to him). He prefers that you dress clean & comfortable. He has formed good friendships with many of his former caregiver/assistants, and what they have all had in common has been their ability to focus on the work at hand and complete it at a high caliber, which enables him to relax and be more interested in social conversations.

Work/Living Environment

To be able to best support the client, you will be provided with the following (a video walk-through of his primary home is available here):

Dedicated parking space at client's residence

Private bedroom and bathroom, fast Wi-Fi, desk/workspace, and 4K external monitor

Access to amenities in/around the residence during daily downtime (time to be coordinated with client in advance) – fitness center, pool, sauna, parks, etc. (see video here)

Well-stocked kitchen with high-protein and nutrient dense foods (you will manage grocery shopping)

On-time compensation (every 2 weeks)

Asana

The ideal candidate will be able to communicate clearly and efficiently with the team to get things done, using a shared online task list (accessible via Asana.com). Note: a laptop is required for the position (any operating system). You will be expected to complete your tasks by the assigned due dates, and you will need to manage your own schedule to make this happen. You will also have access to the client's Google Calendar so that you can plan around your schedule and his schedule as needed.
