GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:
The Substation Superintendent oversees all activities related to the construction of the substation on the solar farm project. This role ensures that all substation work is completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with safety standards, project specifications, and regulations. The superintendent will supervise subcontractors, site crews, and coordinate with other construction teams on-site to ensure the successful completion of the substation, which is a critical component in the solar farms’ energy distribution.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (Other duties may be assigned):
Plan, organize, and supervise the construction of substations for the solar farm
Develop detailed work schedules, ensure adherence to timelines, and adjust plans as necessary to accommodate delays or changes
Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and other teams to ensure substation construction integrates smoothly with other aspects of the project
Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of substation construction crews, including electricians, linemen, and subcontractors
Ensure all team members are properly trained and equipped to perform their tasks safely and efficiently
Conduct daily site meetings to communicate goals, expectations, and safety guidelines
Enforce strict adherence to all site safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and industry standards to maintain a safe work environment
Conduct safety briefings and inspections, ensuring the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and local electrical codes
Inspect substation components, materials, and work to ensure it meets design specifications and quality standards
Identify and resolve issues related to design or construction promptly
Coordinate inspections and work closely with quality assurance teams to certify completed work
Serve as the primary point of contact for the substation construction team, ensuring clear communication between subcontractors and project management
Coordinate logistics for material delivery, equipment, and manpower to avoid delays
Provide regular updates to the project manager on progress, challenges, and any changes to the work plan
Maintain accurate records of work performed, daily reports, safety incidents, and any other project-related documentation
Track project milestones and completion, adjusting the plan as needed to stay within the schedule
Report and track project costs, including labor, equipment, and materials to ensure budget adherence
Valid drivers license
MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Proven 3-5 years’ experience in substation construction, preferably in solar farm construction
Knowledge of substation design, construction, and commissioning
Proficiency in reading electrical schematics and blueprints
Familiarity with construction management software and tools
Understanding of solar farm electrical infrastructure systems
OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR certifications, and other relevant safety or electrical certifications preferred
Strong leadership and team management skills
Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
Effective communications and organizational skills
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to work in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and rain
Ability to stand and walk for long periods, often across uneven, rough, or muddy terrain
Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and high visibility clothing
Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and climbing ladders or scaffolding to inspect work and supervise teams
Occasional lifting, pulling, or pushing of materials and equipment up to 50 pounds
Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces when inspecting substation infrastructure or equipment
Ability to handle tools, equipment, and materials necessary for substation construction oversight
Sharp hearing to detect sounds elated to construction equipment, machinery, and safety signals
Good vision to accurately inspect equipment, read drawings, and monitor work quality
