Autism Peer Mentor/Direct Support Professional

In search of 1 part-time individual to support a young adult with autism.

Days/shifts to cover Saturday/Sunday, 9:00 am-3:30 pm

This position is ideal for people who enjoy working with people with developmental disabilities. The position(s) requires assistance with a 30-year-old individual who needs support to be as independent as possible while building greater connections in their community.

Located in the Alpharetta area within 2 miles of GA400. You would be a part of a team that supports a young person on the autism spectrum on a weekly basis. The purpose of this position is to assist and train on independent living skills, to transport to appointments, and to keep the individual active and learning.

Great for college students, teacher retirees, or others seeking part-time employment.

We are a private employer, not a nonprofit agency.

The ideal candidate should have the following qualities:

Professional or personal experience with adults with developmental disabilities (desired but not required. Training will be offered)

Responsible and reliable

Good communication skills

Detail oriented and follows directions well

Personable, friendly and curious

Compassionate and patient

Some aspects of this position include:

Providing high quality one on one support.

Serving as a positive and active role model.

Representing the individual in positive ways in the community

Facilitating opportunities to meet new people and develop positive relationships

Supporting current skills and teaching new ones in their everyday activities

Being very consistent and following designated protocol.

Being able to redirect challenging behaviors if any occur.

Other attributes of the candidate include:

Maintaining composure under pressure: These individuals often rely on their Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) for assistance, and they may struggle to express their discontent, unhappiness, or frustration constructively.

Reliability and punctuality: Unforeseen absences and tardiness can disrupt the routines of patients who rely heavily on consistency and predictability in their daily lives.

Sharp observational skills: A DSP should be attuned to when something seems off with the individual they support. Other DSPs, healthcare providers, family members, and peers may be able to provide insights when a DSP is unsure about the underlying issue.

Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork: These traits enable DSPs to navigate the challenges of their roles effectively and foster positive relationships with their colleagues.

The candidate must have the following to be considered for this position:

Own reliable vehicle- Driver's License

CPR /First Aid training- can be done online

Pass Criminal Background/Fingerprint Check

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Salary: $27.00 per hour

Schedule:

8-hour shift

Day shift

Saturday/Sunday

Occasional PRN
