This Software Engineer position in Labs @ State Farm involves a broad set of technical skills and experiences developing software solutions in an agile & DevOps focused environment. Our Artificial Intelligence - Voice Interface team is creating cutting edge, human-centric voice experiences using Natural Language Processing.
We are seeking an experienced candidate with full stack development experience, along with an eagerness to learn and the ability to work through the product development lifecycle during various stages of ambiguity and uncertainty. Applicants should have a creative mindset and a desire to learn new and emerging technologies.

Travel: Periodic travel to Corporate in Bloomington, IL may be expected.
Incumbency: This position will have an 18-month incumbency period, beginning on the effective date of the position, which must be met before the employee can post for any other lateral State Farm position. Employees may be considered for leadership or Technology Engineer openings at any time, and a promotional position within the same job structure (i.e. Professional/Technical or Para-professional/Support) after 6 months from the effective date of the position. In these cases, the remaining incumbency would be waived. The incumbency period does not affect the at-will relationship between State Farm and the employee and does not create an employment contract, nor contractual rights.
Desired Technology Skills:
Hands-On Experience with developing solutions on AWS or other cloud platforms. AWS services (Lambda, EC2, RDS, SQS, S3, CloudFront, API Gateway, SNS, QuickSight)
Applies a broad knowledge of computer science principles, theories, concepts, and design patterns for software engineering solutions
Appropriately utilizes testing and security practices to maintain and create new applications
Experience with CI/CD
API development and usage
Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or similar approaches
Knowledge/Experience in NLP/NLU
Ability and desire to learn new technologies, languages, and platforms
Strong communication and relationship building skills to positively interact with business partners and internal team members
Exhibits DevOps and Agile mindset where team is accountable for product from inception to sunset
Willingness to contribute at all stages of product development
Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
Demonstrated results in a fast-paced environment
Ability to quickly adapt to a changing environment
Ability to foster innovation, encourage diversity of thought, and incorporate new ideas
