Job Summary

The School of Health Professions at Dalton State College invites applicants for a full-time (10 month) contract non-tenure-track Lecturer of Nursing beginning January 1, 2025. This position will have an additional 2-month Summer contract, Faculty workload at Dalton State College consists of the following five components: (1) teaching, (2) student success, (3) professional service to the institution and/or community, (4) research/scholarship/creative activity or academic achievement, and (5) professional growth/development The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Program at the Mountain Campus in Ellijay, Georgia. Along with teaching the classroom courses in the nursing sequence, the position will entail teaching in the skills lab, simulation lab, and possibly clinical instructing. Other duties include advising and mentoring students, keeping office hours, developing curriculum, assessment of student learning, providing service to the campus and community, and undertaking professional development. Teaching assignments may include day, evening, off-campus, or online courses.

Thanks to a Nursing Grant Special Funding, the Mountain Campus has state-of-the-art facilities and equipment for teaching skills to undergraduate nursing students. The newly renovated skills/simulation lab has high-fidelity computerized manikins which allows for realistic simulations for real life scenarios. These scenarios create a simulated clinical experience that requires student interventions preparing nurses for professional practice.

Minimum starting salary for the Lecturer is 54,000.00. Continuation of this position is contingent on funding.

As part of the interview process, a teaching demonstration of a nursing topic will be required.

Responsibilities

Major Duties

Teach courses at the undergraduate nursing level with possible clinical responsibilities. The teaching load will consist of 24 to 30 credit hours (based on nursing contact hours) per academic year.

Advise students using Banner/DegreeWorks each semester for the subsequent semesters, assist with graduation applications, mentor students, and assist with career placement.

Actively participate and serve on committees in the college, school, and community.

Participate in other appropriate service and professional activities related to the field of expertise.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

An earned Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, in the field of expertise.

Other Required Qualifications

Must have an unencumbered compact registered nurse (RN) license.

Applicants must provide evidence of a minimum of two years nursing experience.

Earned Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).

Evidence of teaching experience in a nursing program preferred.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to teach in face-to-face, hybrid, and online classrooms.
