Software Developing Junior Partner (unpaid)

Vacancy expired!

I am an experienced software developer forming a team. I have many ideas, more than I could possibly implement myself. I'm interested in recruiting partners to work with me to develop some of my ideas. I'm in Calhoun, GA, and ideally I'd like you to be nearby too. Please note clearly that I'm seeking partners: there is no salary.

I have experience in frontend web development and in backend web development (at other companies), and I've worked primarily in JavaScript and Java. At the moment, my partner and I are planning to develop and launch a project that will include a web service component and an Android app component tied to it. We have a specific product in mind, of course, which obviously I'm not going to describe here.

I have found one team memberthe partner I just mentionedwho I think is onboard, and I plan to keep him. It's just us two for now. He's amazing, as am I. He isn't experienced yet, but he will be.

This is not a "job" actually, technically. I'm not paying anything. You will not be my "employee" in any sense. Don't bother telling me you're interested and that you work for $50/hour or something. Don't care. I'm not buying anybody's time. My partner(s) and I will build products together and make money from them together. The effort and excellence I expect would easily rate over a hundred thousand a year if I were paying for it. If you think you're working for me, then you'll wonder why on Earth you would work so hard without being paid. I'm not asking anybody to work for me. We're going to make products to sell.

This is not a "full time" or "part time" sort of thing. I do not have any pre-defined expectation about how many hours you should be able to put into this. There probably is some minimum amount below which it's not worth the trouble, but I don't care to specify such a number. There is no set schedule. We will make a product, and we'll organize ourselves and our time as necessary and possible to make it happen. If you can contribute 15 hours a week or so, I'm quite open to that. Ideally, we would stay in frequent communication. And probably have some kind of "meeting", either in person or by phone, about weekly for now. I don't want to specify things very closely. I'm open to letting things organize themselves. If this opportunity appeals to you, I'm more about making it work for you rather than telling you how much to work and where and when to be.

You, if you are interested, can have pretty much any kind of background. I am open to training beginners. Young people. Career changers. I am also open to considering experienced engineers if you are willing to learn. You will have to learn. You will have to be willing to make ongoing learning a permanent part of your work.

So what do you get out of it? Equity in the company, of course. You will own a percent of the product and any profits it generates. Also, I will train you, and you will also learn from working alongside my partner. We are going to make real products, and if your biggest dream is just to get a salaried job at someone else's company one day, then I can assure you making a real product will help you get a paying job, whether the product itself makes money or not.

You have every right to ask about my own qualifications, and feel free to ask questions if you inquire. For now, I'll just say again that I've done this professionally for other people at corporations, and now I'm going to make my own product and my own money. Also, I do have a PhD in math. That's not very relevant to the work, but it seems to impress some people.

Remote work is possible. If you inquire, tell me about your location and whether it would be possible for us to meet in person sometimes. I think the more I need to train you, the more I need you to be close to me so I can work with you. But if you are capable of self-learning, then I'm happy to just give you directions and let you do your thing.

If you are interested, just go ahead and message me. Include a resume if you want, but mainly I want the cover letter stuff: I want to know who you are and why you're writing to me. I'm going to ask you how you see yourself contributing to this project. And I'll repeat how much learning I'm going to expect out of you. If you are eager to learn and capable, then I want to hear from you.

Adam
