Shift: 1st6pm - 6am Monday- FridayPay: 17-18hrJob DescriptionThis position of Packaging Operator is responsible for all packaging functions, ensuring that the operation of the Packaging Unit meets quality, productivity, and packaging codes as outlined in our quality system. The Packaging Operator will also operate a forklift as needed and must follow all Work Instructions as outlined.Responsibilities
Initiate, monitor, and confirm all packaging of product is accurate and timely.
Check material running at finishing lines to capture work codes and customer formats, ensuring all customer needs are met for packaging.
Secure necessary packaging materials such as skids, pallets, cardboard, paper, plastic, banding, etc., ahead of packaging.
Verify the accuracy and quality of packaged material.
Confirm weights on material off scale and ensure proper parking locations are entered in the computer.
Coordinate movement of material through shipping bays and communicate with Cranemen to ensure efficient material movement.
Coordinate work at packaging line for multiple coils exiting both Slitter and Blanking Line for maximum efficiency.
Ensure proper pack codes, quality, and efficiency for coils downended, including correct weights and dunnages entered in the computer.
Maintain inventory of all packing needs such as wood, paper, plastic products, banding tools, shrink wrap guns, and propane.
Assist in packaging needs by redistributing packers or working with them to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
Direct unanswered questions through the chain of command in the shipping section.
Monitor and correct safety activities as necessary.
Train on-shift utility personnel in the packaging section and motivate pack crews to achieve outlined results.
Perform all other jobs as assigned.
Essential Skills
Minimum 1 year of forklift experience.
Experience in a warehouse or manufacturing environment.
High School Diploma or GED required.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in packing or shipping preferred.
