Plant Hawaii is seeking a motivated and skilled individual to join our team as an Assistant Nursery Manager at our specialized nursery in Waimanalo, nestled near the beautiful Koolau mountains.
This is an exceptional opportunity for professional growth, where you will learn directly from our current Nursery Manager with the aim of eventually transitioning into that leadership role.
In this position, you will collaborate closely with the Nursery Manager to develop and implement strategies for the successful operation of the nursery. Your responsibilities will include assisting with daily nursery tasks, supervising staff to ensure effective performance, and supporting plant procurement. You will also work with the Nursery Manager and Sales Team in planning for upcoming seasons and projects.
You will lead a small team, emphasizing precision and efficient problem-solving within our dynamic environment. Your duties will also involve plant procurement and collaboration with our sales team. A strong understanding of plant health, encompassing nutrition, pest management, and disease and weed control, is vital for maintaining the health and success of our nursery. Adherence to our certified nursery protocols, including the preparation of monthly inventory reports, is also a key aspect of this role.
We are looking for candidates who possess:
(Schooling/Graduate/Horticulture Experience)
Familiarity with QuickBooks and Excel (training provided).
Experience in plant nutrition, pesticide application, and disease and weed control (training provided; a private pesticide license will be required for application).
Excellent problem-solving abilities.
The capacity to operate a delivery van.
Strong communication skills.
The physical ability to lift at least 40 lbs.
Full-time availability, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
The ability to work both independently and as part of a small team.
Reliable transportation to our Waimanalo location.
A professional manner and appearance.
Flexibility to adapt to the daily needs of the nursery.
This is a full-time, in-person position based in Waimanalo, offering competitive pay. Your starting wage will be determined by your experience and skills, with a pay increase following a successful three-month introductory period to acknowledge your developing expertise.
We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including employer-paid medical insurance, paid time off accrual, an employee discount, and six paid holidays per year. Our standard work schedule is an 8-hour day shift, primarily Monday through Friday.
