Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Sailing Canoe Instructor/Guide to lead engaging, safe, and educational experiences for guests on traditional or modern sailing canoes at Wailea Beach. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience operating sailing canoes and guiding tours or instructional programs, along with a deep respect for the ocean and the cultural traditions tied to canoe voyaging.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and assist in sailing canoe tours, lessons, and excursions.
Educate guests on canoe navigation, local marine ecosystems, cultural traditions, and ocean safety.
Ensure safety procedures are followed at all times, both on and off the water.
Maintain sailing equipment and assist with setup, breakdown, and care of the canoe.
Provide excellent customer service and foster a welcoming, inclusive environment for all guests.
Respond calmly and professionally to emergencies or unexpected weather/ocean conditions.
Qualifications:
Previous experience sailing canoes (traditional or modern designs required).
Prior work as a tour guide, outdoor instructor, or similar role.
Strong understanding of maritime safety protocols.
Comfortable working outdoors in variable conditions.
Excellent communication skills and ability to connect with people of all backgrounds.
CPR/First Aid certified (or willing to obtain before start date).
Knowledge of local waters, marine life, and cultural heritage is a strong plus.
