Cultural Education Specialist

Hi`ipaka LLC, Waimea Valley on the North Shore of Oahu is seeking a Cultural Specialist/Educator. Under the direction of the Cultural Programs Manager, this person will provide an engaging cultural experience for our guests through activities that include but are not limited to, leading walking tours, demonstrating various cultural practices, and interpreting both cultural and botanical exhibits. This person will also teach school groups in an outdoor setting, using our existing educational curricula. Student ages range from early learners to college, and beyond.

Position Requirements:

Must be knowledgeable about one or more specific Hawaiian cultural practices and skilled in the performance of such practice.

Must be familiar with Hawaiian history and culture, including Waimea Valley's heritage. Must be familiar with major Hawaiian cultural issues.

Must be people-oriented and able to work well with others.

Must be organized and a self-starter.

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

Must have planning and time management skills necessary to assist or develop programs.

Must be familiar with Microsoft computer programs, including Word and Excel.

Must project a professional demeanor and be skilled in relating with people from different communities.

Educational Requirements:

A high school diploma is required. A degree (associate or four years) in Hawaiian Studies or a related field is highly desirable. At least 2 years of relevant community or Hawaiian agency experience is also desired.

This is a full-time position and regular attendance on a daily basis is required. Waimea Valley is a seven-day-a-week operation and some weekend work is required.
