Description:

Hālau Kū Māna (HKM) is seeking passionate, mission-driven kumu (teachers) who are committed to advancing Indigenous Education and empowering youth through culturally grounded, student-centered instruction.

As a kumu at HKM, you will be responsible for planning and delivering high-quality, standards-based instruction that aligns with our Vision and Mission. You will help guide haumāna (students) in both academic and cultural learning journeys, ensuring instruction is inclusive, differentiated, and responsive to diverse student needs. This role requires more than classroom teaching—it calls for leadership, collaboration, and a deep commitment to community-based education and ʻāina-based learning.

Primary Responsibilities:

Develop and implement curriculum and instruction that meets learning objectives and reflects HKM’s values.

Design and deliver lessons that are inclusive of diverse learning styles, cultural backgrounds, and student interests.

Use assessment data to inform instruction and promote continuous student growth.

Collaborate actively with colleagues on school-wide initiatives, committees, and projects that enhance the HKM community.

Foster strong relationships with students, families, and the wider community.

Uphold and embody the principles of Indigenous Education in all aspects of your teaching and school involvement.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field (required); teaching license preferred.

Experience working with Native Hawaiian or Indigenous communities is highly desirable.

Strong commitment to culturally sustaining pedagogy and educational equity.

Collaborative mindset and willingness to engage in professional growth and school initiatives.

Familiarity with project-based, experiential, or ʻāina-based education a plus.
