Teacher Support Specialist - contract position, 5-10 class observations per year

Afterschool Music Instructor - contract position, 2-6 hrs/wk (instruction + prep time)

Mana Maoli, a Hawaiian non-profit, seeks qualified, committed and passionate team players to join our team in support of the Mana Mele Project, which teaches Mana Maoliʻs ABCs (Academics, Business, and Culture) through Music and/or Multimedia across a diverse range of genres and styles. We serve K-12 youth, as well as alumni/college interns across 22 partner schools on 4 islands, including all 15 Hawaiian-focused public charter schools.

Teacher Support Specialist (TSS)

The TSS would conduct class observations and provide both in-person and written feedback for our kumu on their respective islands. This is a contract position for 5-10 class visits per year, estimated 1-2 hours per visit.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must live on Kauaʻi or Hawaiʻi island

At least 10 years teaching experience

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Proficiency, skills and experience in music, ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi, music and/or various aspects of Hawaiian culture

Experience teaching at Hawaiian charter schools, or teaching in settings with high concentrations of Native Hawaiian, at-risk, and/or low-income youth.

Music Instructor :

This is an excellent opportunity to make a difference via innovative, real world, culture-based education alongside Hawaiʻi’s music and multimedia industry professionals.

This position is for the following schools:

To Start Immediately: Mālama Honua Public Charter School - Classes would be held during school on Thursdays from 8:30am-1:30pm (6 classes total) for students grades 3-8.

Starting Mid-March 2024: Pauoa Elementary School - Classes would be held after-school twice a week from 2:15-3:30pm (Mondays and Fridays, or other days may be possible), for students grades K-2 or 3-5.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma

Must live on Oʻahu and have reliable transportation

Strong music background

Reliable and on time

Strong desire to work with Hawaiian community in a Hawaiian cultural context and engage with youth

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Knowledge of and/or strong respect for Hawaiian culture – willingness to learn more, and integrate into class instruction

Lots of patience, passion, perseverance, and aloha!

Preferred Qualifications:

Proficiency in Hawaiian language, music and/or culture

Teaching experience

College degree or certificate in Education, Music or related fields

Curriculum and program development experience

Compensation: Starts at $25-30/hr. Besides instructional hours, kumu are also paid for additional work including the following:

Prorated class prep time

Time spent completing deliverables

Participation in mandatory and optional professional development (“PD”) workshops

Quarterly check-in meetings

Events and kanipila involving our youth

Video Lessons

Guest Kumu - contract position, on-call (as needed and available)

Guest kumu would be called on when kumu teaching year-long classes need a guest presenter of specific areas of expertise, or when they need coverage due to illness, emergency, etc. Compensation, as well as minimum and preferred qualifications, are the same as what is listed under Afterschool Music Instructor.
