Job Description

HII-Mission Technologies Division is seeking a Sr. Database Engineer to join our Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse Team in developing advanced information technology solutions for the Department of Defense (DoD). This person will work regular business hours remotely from anywhere in the U.S.The Sr. Database Engineer will support the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical server systems and database applications for HII's Force Risk Reduction (FR2) program. The FR2 program supports the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness in its mission to reduce accidents, mishaps, and injuries across all the military departments. Our Team provides DoD decision-makers with timely and actionable data, so the Sr. Database Engineer must have deep experience in developing and maintaining data warehouses. This person will not perform as a database architect, but rather as a member of an established database engineering team.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Work with business analysts to determine database and data processing requirements.
  • Design, build, and test data processing programs.
  • Contribute to architecture, code, and program reviews.


Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 years of relevant experience with a Bachelors degree is required, preferably in computer science, information systems, an engineering program, or related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in a related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in a related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
  • Work experience in writing complex SQL queries to manipulate and extract data from Microsoft SQL Server, and in building stored procedures and views.
  • Experience required in designing, modeling, and building Extract Transform and Load (ETL) data flow processes (preferably in SSIS) from data extraction, through source, staging, relational, and dimensional databases.
  • Demonstrated experience in and commitment to developing under a formal software development process as part of a collaborative team is expected.
  • Proven capacity to be productive while working remotely from the rest of the team
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD SECRET security clearance.


Preferred Requirements

  • 10 years of experience in systems analysis, quality assurance, and/or engineering support in data-intensive software engineering environments, with at least 8 years of specialized experience in data warehousing.
  • In-depth knowledge of semantic layer design and development (such as OLAP cube or similar in a BI tool).
  • Experience modeling dimensional databases.
  • Demonstrated experience with HIPAA requirements.
  • Knowledge of operating system internals, database backup and replication, middleware, web interfaces, and client tools.
  • Security+ certification (Must be obtained within the first 3 months of assignment)
  • Azure Data Engineer certification (Must be obtained within the first 3 months of assignment)


Physical Requirements

May require working in an office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.
