Position: Line Cook

Restaurant: Mimosa

Position Summary

A Line Cook is responsible for efficiently preparing and cooking food items from a dedicated breakfast menu in a fast-paced kitchen environment. This role involves maintaining high food safety and quality standards while focusing on speed, consistency, and presentation to ensure a positive dining experience for guests.

Key Responsibilities

Food Preparation & Cooking

Prepare and cook various breakfast items (e.g., eggs, pancakes, waffles, bacon, sausage, and other breakfast specialties) based on restaurant recipes and standards.

Ensure all dishes are produced consistently and according to the required portion size, cooking method, taste, and presentation.

Station Management

Set up and stock stations with all necessary supplies before service begins (ingredients, seasonings, cooking utensils, clean pans, etc.).

Monitor product inventory levels and communicate shortages or issues to the Head Chef or Kitchen Manager.

Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked station throughout the shift.

Quality Control

Inspect ingredients for freshness and quality before use; discard or report any subpar items.

Verify final plate presentation, ensuring that all orders meet the restaurant’s appearance and taste standards.

Food Safety & Sanitation

Adhere to food safety guidelines and maintain proper hygiene practices at all times.

Follow all health and safety regulations, including correct food handling, storage, and temperature monitoring.

Keep all work areas, equipment, and utensils clean and sanitized during and after service.

Efficiency & Speed

Manage multiple orders simultaneously under time pressure without sacrificing quality.

Communicate effectively with other kitchen staff and the serving team to ensure food is delivered promptly.

Team Collaboration

Work closely with other line cooks, prep cooks, and kitchen staff to coordinate meal preparation.

Provide support across kitchen stations during peak service times.

Collaborate with the Head Chef or Kitchen Manager to develop new breakfast items or improve existing recipes.

Other Duties

Assist with kitchen opening and closing procedures, such as prepping, cleaning, and stocking.

Maintain kitchen equipment and report any malfunctions to management.

Perform other related duties as assigned by the Head Chef or Kitchen Manager.

Qualifications

Experience:

Previous experience as a line cook or prep cook in a fast-paced kitchen; breakfast or brunch experience is highly desired.

Knowledge & Skills:

Strong understanding of basic cooking techniques (e.g., grilling, frying, sautéing) and breakfast-specific cooking skills (e.g., egg cookery).

Familiarity with food safety standards (ServSafe certification is a plus).

Excellent time management and organizational skills.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand for extended periods and work in a fast-paced environment.

Capability to lift up to 30-50 pounds and perform repetitive tasks.

Comfortable working in a hot, sometimes noisy kitchen environment.

Attention to detail and ability to follow recipes consistently.
