Java Kai in Koloa is hiring Baristas & Front-of-House team members. While we are known for our coffee, we are a full-service breakfast + lunch cafe as well. Team members can enjoy daily shift meals and a free coffee drink every day (even on days off)!

We are seeking responsible and energetic people to work alongside an awesome, dedicated team of individuals. You must be able to work well by yourself and with a team, have a positive attitude, and be able to keep a friendly smile on during a rush.

Part time and full time positions are available. Applicants must have a flexible schedule and availability to work 3-5 days a week in afternoons and on weekends. Hourly pay plus tips averages around $30/hr.

Skills and qualifications:

Excellent listening and communication skills to effectively interact with coworkers and customers

Basic coffee knowledge, such as how to prepare common coffee beverages. Advanced knowledge, such as roasting and grinding processes, coffee bean sourcing and flavor differences is a major plus.

Basic math and cash handling skills

Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills to interact in a positive manner and prevent or resolve conflicts

Strong teamwork abilities to work efficiently in a fast-paced and high-volume environment with other Baristas

Attention to detail to manage specific customer requests as well as a high-volume beverage assembly line with minimal errors

Time management and organizational skills to work efficiently and effectively

Primary duties include:

Greeting customers in a friendly manner and taking food and drink orders

Preparing and serving beverages such as drip coffee, espresso-based drinks, tea and other specialty drinks

Following standardized recipes

Memorizing Java Kai’s shorthand for order-taking

Answering customers’ questions about menu choices

Promoting and recommending menu options to customers

Taking payment from customers and maintaining a balanced cash drawer

Completing daily and weekly shift checklists

Stocking and rotating products, ingredients, and materials

Preparing and properly labeling ingredients for beverage offerings

Maintaining and cleaning espresso machines, grinders, coffee machines and other equipment

Keeping the work environment and cafe seating area clean, sanitary and organized

Responding to and resolving customer concerns or complaints
