Located in beautiful Kailua-Kona, we are a primary care office with 5 providers.
We are looking for someone with a solid work-ethic and experience in billing. Our office uses Akamai, so experience with this program is preferred.
We are searching for an ambitious, organized, and focused candidate with excellent technical abilities to fill a Medical Billing Specialist role. We are hiring a reliable, pleasant, in-house medical biller to handle claim submissions and collections which involves research, correction and re-submission of outpatient claims to insurance companies. Medical billing experience in outpatient / family medicine medical office is a plus.
Primary Job Duties include but are not limited to:
- WORK ON ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE
- Verify insurance eligibility and effectively communicate relevant information on payment and billing/collections policies with doctors and staff
- Prepare, review, and submit claims in a timely manner using billing software
- Maximize appropriate reimbursement; Check each insurance payment for accuracy and compliance with contract discount.
- Identify and bill secondary or tertiary insurances.
- Interpret documentation and Research and appeal denied claims.
- Communicate effectively with insurance payers and other phone contacts to resolve issues.
- Collect and post insurance and patient payments
- Run collection reports. Provide Doctor with weekly A/R report.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient records for HIPAA compliance.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualification Requirements:
Must be familiar and/or enjoy learning about family medical services.
Adept in medical coding with thorough understanding of bill processing, collections, and third-party payer requirements.
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel with proficiency in other Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Outlook and internet applications
Organized, keen attention to detail and accuracy, Excellent data entry skills.
Self-directed and able to prioritize work.
Problem-solving skills to research and resolve discrepancies, denials, appeals, collections.
Trustworthy
Strong listening skills

Previous experience with an electronic medical record system- specifically AKAMAI PM preferred
Knowledge of working with EMRs
Required Education:
High school graduate or equivalent; College degree preferred.
Medical Billing or Medical Coding program completed.
Prior work experience.
