Medipharm Pharmacy, a three-location specialty pharmacy in Honolulu and Hilo is seeking a part-time fill-in pharmacist. The pharmacist will dispense medications and work closely with patients, prescribers and case managers to make sure compliance with medication therapies and that drugs are reaching patients, many of whom are homeless. Work hours are normally Monday-Friday 9-5pm. The pharmacy is not open during weekends, holidays or evenings. The fill-in pharmacist will work when a regular pharmacist is unavailable. Fill-in hours will vary on an as-needed basis.
Duties:
Fill prescriptions, verifying instructions from physicians on the proper amounts of medication to give to patients.
Check whether the prescription will interact negatively with other drugs that a patient is taking or conditions the patient has.
Instruct patients on how and when to take a prescribed medicine.
Advise patients on potential side effects they may experience from taking the medicine.
Advise patients about general health topics, such as diet, exercise, and managing stress, and on other issues, such as what equipment or supplies would be best for a health problem.
Complete insurance forms and work with insurance companies to be sure that patients get the medicines they need.
Oversee the work of pharmacy technicians and pharmacists in training (interns).
Keep records and do other administrative tasks.
Teach other healthcare practitioners about proper medication therapies for patients.
Qualifications:
Required:
License to practice pharmacy in the State of Hawaii.
Availability to work June 21 through July 1, 2024 in Hilo.
Preferred:
One year experience as a pharmacist.
Experience working in a psychiatric care facility.
Experience working in a healthcare facility pharmacy.
Physical Demands/Conditions:
Use of a computer, telephone, fax machine and other office equipment.
Use of pill counters, scales, graduates and other pharmacy equipment.
Sitting, standing, bending, reaching, grasping and climbing in confined space.
Verbal and written communication in English.
