Automotive Technician/Mechanic

East Hawaii Auto is seeking an experienced Automotive Technician to join our team. You will be responsible for troubleshooting issues and fixing them aiming for maximum reliability and functionality. Preferably well-versed in complex mechanical or electronic systems of vehicles and have excellent problem-solving abilities. They must be good communicators to provide recommendations to customers/office staff.

The shop is located on Silva St in Hilo.

Not interested in out-of-state applicants, looking for someone already living on the Big Island.

The position is for a Monday - Friday weekday schedule (no weekend work). 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM (30 Minute Lunch) Overtime when needed

Responsibilities

Inspect vehicle engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately

Inspect vehicle computer and electronic systems to repair, maintain and upgrade

Conduct routine maintenance work (replacing fluids, lubricating parts etc.) aiming to vehicle functionality and longevity

Schedule future maintenance sessions and advise motorists on good vehicle use

Repair or replace broken or dysfunctional parts and fix issues (e.g. leaks)

Provide accurate estimates (cost, time, effort) for a repair or maintenance job

Keep logs on work and issues

Maintain equipment and tools in good condition

Ability to maintain a professional appearance and provide friendly customer service.

Must read, interpret, and transcribe data to maintain accurate records.

Perform routine maintenance and other tasks in a fast-paced environment.

May lift objects that weigh as much as 50 lbs.

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience as a lube technician.

Understanding of automotive air-conditioning systems.

Ability to use the diagnostic equipment.

Experience with heavy equipment and as a diesel mechanic, diesel engine knowledge, or prepared to do on-the-job training.

Good hand-eye coordination.

Perform maintenance and repair on customer and fleet vehicles.

Identify problems with vehicles using the diagnostic equipment.

Explain automotive repairs and issues and provide great customer service.

Plan repair procedures using charts manuals and experience.

Test the functionality of parts and systems.

Perform basic auto care and maintenance tasks such as oil changes, fluid level checks, and tire rotation.

Repair and replace brake pads, wheel bearings, sensors, and other parts.

Perform routine maintenance and general mechanic work on vehicles.

Prepared to get additional certification as needed.

Willingness to learn with hands-on training.

Help keep repair shop clean and organized.

Other misellaneous duties

Skills

Proven experience as auto mechanic

Excellent knowledge of mechanical, electrical and electronic components of vehicles

Working knowledge of vehicle diagnostic systems and methods

Ability to handle various tools (e.g. pliers) and heavy equipment (e.g. lift)

Willingness to observe all safety precautions for protection against accidents, dangerous fluids, chemicals etc.

Excellent physical condition

Valid certification (e.g ASE) is required

5+ years of shop experience required and prepared to do on-the-job training

Hold a valid driver's license
