Kupa 'Aina is hiring for Farm Assistants! Come work the 'aina with us!

Primary Purpose:

Assist the Farm Manager in the various operational duties of the Kupa ‘Aina project.

Essential Duties:

-Implement day to day farm operations as directed;

-Perform farming duties such as weed eating, planting, weeding, harvesting;

-Educate volunteers, visitors, and partner agencies on organic and natural farming methodologies;

-Production of natural farming inputs by blending plants nutrients;

-Assist with data tracking and logging of all produce harvested and donated, water meter tracking, etc.;

-Learn farming from indigenous perspectives on creating oiwi foodways.

Other Duties:

Other duties as assigned.

Work Hours:

-40 hours per week, Monday through Saturday, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or as otherwise determined by the supervisor;

-Position requires regular and predictable attendance.

Working Conditions:

-Outdoor field and farm setting;

-Travel to neighboring islands may be required.

Equipment Use:

Computer, cell phone, heavy farm equipment, light farm equipment, utility terrain vehicle, gas-powered equipment, and hand tools.

Mental, Physical, and Communication Demands

Mental:

-Consistent adherence to the practice of PIDF’s five core values that are used as a guiding force in the success of all of its programs;

-capability to comprehend instructions and practice;

-Strong organizational skills and ability to focus on multiple tasks;

-Strong analytical thinking and problem solving;

-Able to work independently for extended periods of time.

Physical:

-Must be able to perform routine farm duties as necessary on a commercial farm;

-Requires lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds on a regular basis;

-Able to perform strenuous fieldwork in harsh weather.

Communication:

-Exhibit courteous and professional demeanor towards volunteers, staff and administration via verbal, written, physical, and electronic correspondence.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

-High school diploma or equivalent required;

-Must possess working knowledge of various farm tools and equipment;

-One (1) year agricultural experience and knowledge of traditional Hawaiian farming systems preferred.
